Spends time placing all the lava rock, covers it all in aqua soil. At least it still serves a purpose supporting the larger stones.

The aquascaping here is a solid "A". However, there are simply too many cardinal tetras. A much smaller school would have made for a much more pleasing effect of scale and would have better complimented the plants and rock work.

Wow! Absolutely gorgeous and, like you said, a slize of nature in your home. One thing I wonder about is the weight and pressure on the glass with those heavy stones. Wouldn´t want all that water anywhere outside the tank due to it cracking because of pressure...
I used to produce 100% realistic rocks in polyurethane in the late 90s and one of the advantages with them was that they weighed almost nothing. Subscribed, amazing channel!

Planning for an aquascaping project this is my first time but I already had a 36x18x18 aquarium which is pretty large for a begginner but I have already bought the aquarium so it would be bit of a challenge for a newbie like me. Was not really planning for an aquascape but just to help my young daughter by setting up a regular aquarium with fish have her appreciate nature at her young age. But aquascaping is the ultimate nature replica compared to a regular aquarium therefore give better exposure and appreciation to nature at her young age. Your videos definitely helped my plans and im have gained a lot of information that I can actually push through with a plan.

Adeline Dering
Adeline Dering - 7 years ago
It is normally better to have a hardscape (Wood, Rocks, Natural things you would find at a store) so that it is visually pleasing and so it can make hiding spots for your fish. Live plants are still highly recommended.

I like your stuff in part because you aren't afraid to use a wide variety of plants. Seems all we see anymore is moss scapes with a few ferns and Anubias if we're lucky (though some of them are quite well done). It's refreshing to see you utilize a temperate pond weed like Egeria effectively. I think using a wide variety of plants is great and I think also trickier to maintain.

it is far more expansiv than just 1.000$. My Tank 250x80x70 with opti White Glass was at about 1.200€. The Problem is it weights about 400kg. So two peopel came to gloo it for 950€. Than you took a Steel underconstruction with with white wood door, and an extra tank for filtration. I'm not sure but is was around 3.200€. Than you need Led Light, two controler, Co2 + 2 Difusor + Controller... about 1.500€ extra... minium 5x 9l ADA Aquasoil 150€, ADA Powder Aquasoil + Lava gravle 150 €, approx 100-150 boxes with plant with an average price of 5€ = 500€ - 750€. Stones 200kg about 600€.

In Total 8.500€ without fish and shrimp. Of couse it might be possible get it a cheaper, but you won't get it for 200$ ;)

I was wondering how long the plant life lasted for too, good to hear it's easy to add fertiliser as needed
OhmannOcean
OhmannOcean - 7 years ago
They can stay alive for as long as you're willing to care for it. Substrate will provide nutrients for multiple years on its own and after that you can add additional fertilizer tabs into the the substrate to give it a boost.

fantastic as always! video quality, as well as the scape, are top notch. definitely one of my favourite channels on youtube. at first i was hesitant seeing the hardscape, not liking it at first, but seeing the tank grown in, it really came together for something great. that is a testament to the experience of James Findley and how he knows how everything will grow out.
just one thing to note, i think you missed the Microsorum pteropus 'Trident' in your plant list unless my eyes deceive me, and that huge bunch of green is one of the other plants listed.

[HELP NEEDED] How do you get your Alternanthera mini so vibrant? Mine is only colorful under, and the tops are brownish red. I have an ADA 60-P. I use 1 bubbles per second of Co2, with aquasky moon 601 mirror unit set. Also, any tips on removing greenish water with a new setup aquarium less than 2 months old? I have Twinstar nano, and I use RO water. Help greatly needed.
Shane Puthuparambil
Shane Puthuparambil - 7 years ago
Lighting drives CO2 uptake. If you increase lighting, you will need to up your bubble count, and fertilizing regiment
Hans Thegerman
Hans Thegerman - 7 years ago
+Steven Piluk no problem. And with regards to the green water, it's probably algae. Meaning an imbalance of nutrients in the tank. Be generous with the co2 and do daily 10% water changes. It should go away in a week. But before all that just take a napkin and simply wipe the glass of the tank to see if that solves the problem
Steven Piluk
Steven Piluk - 7 years ago
Hans Thegerman Thanks for the advice!
Hans Thegerman
Hans Thegerman - 7 years ago
some fertilizers that provide iron to the aquascape can also intensify the colour of the plants. just provide better lighting. lighting saved my tank, it made everything much more alive and thrived. too bad my tank had a leak..
anyways dont worry. 2 months is still new. just improve the light if you feel that you fertilize it well enough already
