Why do you recommend using fish during a cycle? As a responsible shop, why not advocate fishless cycling?

oh man. yeah even my LFS told me to use danio's. luckily i read a book on responsible fishkeeping first and knew to do it fishless with ace hardware ammonia. took me about a month, but my colony is strong and i was able to fully stock immediately once it was done.

We persuade people to use pure ammonia to cycle a tank, but they do not listen, so at least let them use fish that will resist a cycle better. We cycle all of our tanks with ammonia. You should see the looks we get when we tell the people to put ammonia and tetra safe start and wait 2 weeks and TEST their water for the NO2 spike, especially when they just left PETCO and were told they can put a bunch of yellow labs in their 10g tank.

watching this to grow a cool scape for guppies. but sint it called low tech? as i want to add high light ( high par more than high watts) since my lfs has there low techs with good leds
