Hi Paul, they can be used together but we don't recommend it mainly because we see it as a waste of money for our customers. Tropica substrate works well for fast results but needs to be capped with gravel. ADA Aqua Soil is a complete substrate and need not be capped. For a more detailed explanation please read our article on substrates by following the link at the bottom of the video description.

@MeNicki To do that you would need a smaller tank, like 5 gallons or whatever that is in liters

I notice that the tank does not have a brace to prevent the long glass panels from bowing. I am looking into possibly assembling my own aquarium and I was wondering if anyone could suggest where I could find information discussing tanks that do not require braces.
