One kayak that should definitely be part of this group is the Perception Striker 11.5. Now, although this kayak is $600+ at Dick's, at other big box stores (like Academy Sports, Ray Marine, etc.) it can be had for as cheap as $450. It's a very stable kayak with high/lo seats (very primitive and unpadded), but it has a great deck layout and a true 500lb capacity. I actually have one of these as my lake kayak in Virginia, and it's great. It would be an excellent addition to your cheap fleet for bigger people. With that type of capacity, it's also very possible (and easy) to motorize.
I sure wish he was my local dealer for sure.
Keep up the Vids, you are an asset to the Yak community.
I own a new 2019 Outback but, am gonna buy a Tamarak for my teen daughter's first one, this is like the 5th vid praising it.
Have you reviewed the Sun Dolphin Journey SS 10ft? Same price point as the tamarack. Would love an unbiased opinion on the two. Thanks.

I ride a 12 feet kayak myself, can't imagine what would force me into a 10 feet one. Not the smallest guy at 6 feet myself, but if you say you'd cut 2 feet off my kayak i'd be pretty confused where to put all my gear (and my feet). On the roof of the car they are all long, so my advice would be stick with 12 feet :)
I am a big guy at 6'3" 250 lbs. I wanted a sit-on kayak and the Tamarack had the best leg room but I didn't like the quality of the plastic so i decided against it.
So.... Yesterday I was on my way to Academy Sports to buy the Perception Pescador 10 for $499, but stopped at the West Marine to look at their kayaks first. I ended up buying a West Marine Pompano 105 for $450. I can't seem to see any difference in the Pompano from the Pescador except that the Pompano has actual rod holders installed and the color. I honestly believe they are the exact same kayak. Any info or knowledge on the Pompano? Did I make a bad decision?

Was hoping you guys shipped because no one carries the 3 waters big fish and you sold it to me in part 1.
I appreciate all the info.
Keep up the great reviews. I go to your page for all my kayak info. I am looking forward to see what you upgrade on your lifetime tamarack kayak. I bought my lifetime kayak just because this video. Thanks for all the information.
Great stuff! Thank you!
I’m going to try and fish off of it until I save up for an upgrade. I hope i don’t roll it because I’ll be dragging it to shore lol, no way I’ll be able to get back into it. Thanks again!
I know the stock paddle is cheap, and want to replace it, but I'm waiting until I can get up to Lodi to get new ones from you. I like the ones you suggested in the $60 to $70 range. I was convinced that I should get a better paddle after your paddle video with Chris came out.
I am looking forward to your Tamarack Angler build. I expect you'll be gearing it toward the lower end of the market, using budget components to go along with the low cost of the kayak. I've done a few things to one of my kayaks and plan to modify the other one in a similar way. There are a lot of videos on YouTube showing mods that others have done.
I like Mobbin's idea about stocking the Tamarack. Perhaps you could build a budget fishing package (including kayak mods) that would get someone on the water for around $500, with more features than anything else in that price range. Another option would be to sell a package deal for someone to upgrade the kayak they bought at the big box store... Perhaps a paddle, seat, crate, and anchor trolley package...
now the tamarac is on sale for $235 and im broke
Have you any information on lower priced pedal drives?
Riot Mako or the Pelican Hydryve?
thanks Phil
Still looking for a better, light-weight paddle with smaller diameter handle to fit his hands.
Had a feeling you'd go with the Tamarack. I have a Wildie Ride 135 for fishing. I Love it, but the Tamarack is fun for just paddling around! Great Video's! Keep up the Great work!
I'm tempted to just buy the Tamarack on a whim and if I don't like it sell it; but I still need to find a Walmart near me that offers one, or have it shipped to store, Though i'd like to see it in person.
One thing that you didn't test or mention is standing. I'm not a fan of how low any of these are, I'd definitely like to be up just a bit higher. also, any way you could demo moving around the kayak and accessing some of the further portions of the boat, while in the water? ie if you have a tack bag/box way up front or way in back, how do you reach it? I feel like I'd need to at least kneel and lean a bit to access some of those further portions of the boat, but with my luck i'd fall off or flip it lol. Right now I'd say, if money was no Object, I'd probably throw down on a Big Fish 105/120, or the Cabela's Advanced Angler 120 (which is basically a re branded big fish 120? and looks to be cheaper?)
If you guys don't ship Kayaks which I totally get, do you ship paddles or PFDs? If I do get a kayak, I'd def be buying an upgraded paddle, and for all the support and vids I'd love to offer you a bit of my business should I need anything.
Dan I Hope this is the guy you were talking about
I think I’ll go with the 3 waters big fish 105 cus of your videos thanks so much!
