Nah brother, trolling motors are heavy, hard to work with, you can't put it on this hobie rudder, If you use a marine battery you are adding min 70# and this revo only holds 270, if you decided to get a lithium battery you are gonna pay $300 plus so at the end bixpy package is way better

I totally get you support the product. Mine is nothing but a opinion, but I own half dozen kayaks of various lengths and uses...(Very good kayaks I might add) that I spent 1000 or less for, and I just cant see spending 1000 for it. I am absolutely sure there is a market for it... particularly fishermen..... but for the recreational kayaker not so much. Again just a initial opinion. Whats the usage expectation in hours for the motor? How much are additional batteries?

+Virginia Paddler ohh come on, the whole thing weighs 10# a 45# trolling motor and and 60#battery will drive you crazy also a decent 45# saltwater trolling motor is going to run you to $300-400 the battery $60-100 and you still have to setup the cables, when the battery starts losing power it slows down the motor, Bixpy keeps going till the end because it is lithium, you can carry a second battery because it only weighs 7#. 95% of the kayaks and canoes that costs less than $1000 cost that for a reason! What's more good luck putting a heavy battery and motor in a hobie revo rated for 270#, and don't tell me you will use a 20# trust trolling motor, you are better off not using anything. Sorry about the rant but I'm tired of people only looking at price and not the whole package. Torqueedo costs almost double and is not faster and it doesn't last much longer.

This is just my opinion but you know what makes this motor justifyable...not being on something that is already fast easy and has limitless energy because its powered by man. Thats what makes the hobie special, but that motor would be great for other kyacks that only have basic paddling other than that motors are a hassle cause you gotta care for a battery and always make sure its charged also a morotized paddleboard is worthless to fishermen cause most who use paddle boards for fishing are using them to sneek up on fish on the flats or fish in heavy cover and a paddleboard glides over all of that stuff with out spooking the fish. With a bit of an extention on the bottom it not only takes away from being in as skinny of water but also takes away the simplicity of using a paddle board or a hobbie. At that point ill spend my 1000 on a small boat with 100 dollar minkoda set up and now i have more space to fish from. Things have to be simple when kyack fishing or paddle board fishing for a reason. Its why people buy into it for the most part, yeah theres all them upgrades n stuff but now its alot harder to transport and throw in your kyackup and off yor car if youre hopping spot to spot fishing in small lagoons, ponds ect. Thats what makes kyack fishing great. Its about being cheap, simplified and innovative. The most ill pay for a yack is 2grand above that and im buying a boat cause i know i wont be racing or having something overloaded with stuff that ends up making the kyack almost as heavy as a boat. I like this idea but adding a battery to a kyack is just another chore and they end up only lasting 6 hours before another charge vs having less weight and having limitless time on the water with something faster that also gives you a small workout.
I do enjoy your videos though and i hope to be seeing more of them.

Aliex Fishing true but i usually never use a fish finder unless im jigging for trout and i find the drive to be quiet enough since i can sneak up on skiddish trout feeding on hatches which if you can get away with that then its quiet enough for anything plus ive heard of peoples drives failing but i think thats just from not preping it and doing the maintenance, making sure that everything is tight and moving correctly before and after every outing, its like a bike you cant just leave it out in the rain and not dry it down and apply wd40 to it and not expect any issues to happen over time. Also the battery for a fish finder i use is tiny and lasts 6 hours and takes at most 3 to 4 hours to charge, a battery for a motor is 7 pounds and takes about 8 to 12 hours to charge. Ive delt with this sort of thing with a cannoe and its fun once its in the water but kayaking for me has to be simple, otherwhise im takin out my 15 foot hobie power skiff lol. But in the end i guess it comes down to what people are more comfortable with. Im thankful for your reply though, it means alot to see you care about your viewers to give a reply and have small discussions with them.

+The Rc Master6042 the beauty of kayak fishing is that you can go simple or big time, as far as changing a battery being hassle you still need do charge your fish finder, you still need to carry your paddle and the Mirage drive, there are times when your can't use your mirage drive and have to paddle. The motor is less noisy than the mirage drive.

That motor set up is way too long on the hobie mirage drive, would lose or break it in a matter of minutes on a submerged rock. Have a watersnake one I made up myself which is quarter the size and price. Diy kayaks has a good video on how to make one yourself.

Not to knock the bixby motor but I'm not sure I'd purchase one now after seeing this video. I was really excited about it but I feel sorta let down now.... Guess it didnt meet my expectatioms of speed. I really like the idea of jet propulsion and all the technology and diversity of this motor to fit virtually any kayak. I believe that's the future of motorized kayaking. That sounds oxymoronic lol. It's perfect for us kayakers , lightweight and the battery tech is great! But it seems to me it lacks power. Yes I know it was windy and choppy but 3mph isn't what I'd expect from something in this price range. Plus, i wonder the longevity of these things?? What do they cost to repair? I've been building trolling motors for years for Hobie's and sold a ton. They're simple, powerful and long lasting. As the years go by, I've realized the simpler things are on a kayak, the better. My motor cost less than half the price of this thing and imo performs the same if not better. Electric Surf Sports Waiting on a phone call to meet shipping company and receive my Vibe 130 Sea Ghost. Stumbled on these vids by chance and am pretty excited. People are complaining about price, but a powered yak at just under $2k isn’t crazy. Your demos show that the design is very thoughtful, especially in its adaptability for a variety of applications.
A few questions:
1. Have you determined a realistic lifespan of the unit in hours? (Prop head and battery)
2. Is the prop head essentially an aquarium pump with modified housing and impeller? If so, is the impeller similarly easy to replace and maintain?
3. In Texas, adding a trolling motor requires operators to register the kayak as a motorized vehicle. (Something to that effect). Do you know if the Bixpy would require the same?
4. Several comments compare trolling motor outputs, stating increased performance at lower cost. We know that there is no comparison in terms of weight. Have you experimented with or considered a higher-output device that adds a little weight but more speed/range? Or is the current model already optimized for available technology?

Interesting, but at $1k, I'll pass! That and it changes the licensing requirement on the watercraft from non-motorized to motorized. That's another negative for those of us who live where they nail you for a kayak license. At least non-motorized is much less.

I don't mind the experimenting... It's what I plan on doing anyway.

But I'd like to know if the Mirage adaptor will fit the hole for the Kingscraft peddle drive, which looks tantalizingly similar in both size and shape... but it'd be expensive to order one only to find it doesn't fit and that I can't use it. And I'm on the other side of the world...

The universal setup is an alternative possibility, I suppose, but I think the centre-mounted motor would give my kayak greater directional stability and make it easier to steer, too, allowing me to use the Kingscraft's own rudder.

There's another question... If I were to get the universal kit, I don't know that it would be compatible with the Kingscraft rudder system, because I don't know if the K's rudder system is similar at all to the Hobie.

Not entirely surprised that you haven't heard of Kingscraft yet, but you WILL; I think they're relatively new on the market; they have a pedal powered drive unit (which floats) and the hole for it looks so similar to that for the mirage drive... You sure you can't give me dimensions of your adaptor? (Honestly, mate... I don't want to steal your design; just want to know if it'll work in my 'yak...)

In any case, don't be surprised when you get further enquiries similar to mine; they're a moderately-priced pedal-driven kayak... I'd predict they'll sell very well; and I've no doubt I won't be the only one to notice the similarity between the hole shapes for the Kingscraft's own drive unit, and the Mirage drive unit... or to wonder if your motor and adaptor will fit.

Extra 1K for a kayak that already was 3K.
Honestly i think that is overpriced. Even though peddling kayaks are 1K higher then others. Another down side is. Once you add this to your kayak in texas. It will have to be registered and TX numbers put on the kayak. Which defeats the purpose of using a kayak and not having to register it.
With all that being said. It does in no way take away of how freaking cool this product is. Regardless of if i think its overpriced. It may have to be that price to get a little profit back out of what it cost to make it. It would be nice to see the price get a little lower once the product takes off. That might be some wishful thinking lol.

riprockvx9 A solar panel could likely work if it is designed to charge consumer electronics, but no direct solution that I'm aware. would be interesting to find out how we can make this happen. About the old time predator. While it is our aim to get as many solutions out with direct attachments it will likely be a bit to design, mass produce and ship these adapters. The beauty is that there might be an adapter that works for you currently with little or no modification. You should be able to make your own cassette likely. Think of a way to make a kick up feature too when designing and who knows, maybe we'll buy the design from you :)

If you designed your product, im sure it's a top notch product. 9 OUT 10 AMERICAN PRODUCS are solid designed and no shortcut.
I found today that "made in the usa " somehow rebounding and people are fed up with throw away stuff. One example is the company called DeWalt . They stopped outsourcing their made in China, are now produced in the states. Very surprised that they sold more tools today than any brands. According to their business report. Their company are profitable and in a long run & they will meet their forecasted profit for many years to come. Good luck to you and I hope you do well.

zzzzzsleeping I get it, I suspected the mention of China was the biggest issue here. Sad to say, you're right with the fact that quality can be a real issue and something that must be checked and often to make sure the products are being made to spec and the correct materials. The motors were delayed once due to the fact that better motor shafts had to be sourced from Germany. Quality components have been hand selected in this case, and not all factories are the same. It's not about profit completely but keeping the price at a point that's affordable and profitable for all involved. Sorry to hear of your experience, but steps and measures are in place for the best possible results. Many high end consumer electronics come from China. Turbochargers by their very nature, extremely high speed moving blades and shafts require tolerances that cannot deviate and materials that reach extremely high temperatures. I can completely see how any changes or cheaping of materials could have terrible results. I'm confident putting my companies name on this, time will tell but we're here to make sure this has the best chance to succeed :)

I can understand why you redeveloping your product in China. Profit is the name of the game. I've been there until I learned my lesson producing my inferior product from China. Most people in America willing to pay more as long as made and produced in America.
I used to own a turbocharging manufacturing until my partner convinced. Me to outsourced them from China. We made money on the first year and steadily going downhill every year. My luck caught up with me when customers starts complaining the quality of the products. My two engineers made a trip in China and check the design and can't find anything wrong except the cheap metals and workmanship. The end of my BUSINESS
Today, customers branded all eBay turbocharger made in fooking china.
That means harbour freight tools

You put lots of effort, design, research and money with your design then thrashed it and gave it the CHINESE

Bixpy is constantly AND quickly improving the product. Any issue no matter how small has been handled and improved. They're one of the best vendors out of many we have worked with that really care and are extremely focused on getting it right. I think your issue is with China itself as you likely have no experience with Bixpy or this motor. Let us know how we can show you otherwise. Designed and many parts assembled in California. Believe me every motor is QC checked before heading out.

the jet has absolutely no advantage if it is mounted 12 inches belowbottom of hull.Not to disparage product but a jets primary advantage is propulsion in "skinny"water ,otherwise a prop. is a better means of propulsion.For that price it is extremely underpowered.Torquedo is the better option at that price.

Gary Pollock, if there's a ton of object in the water, I'm not sure it's the best idea to run this or many other motors for that matter, however I can say there is some clever thought in it. The nose cone for example is designed to take an impact and if too hard, will break as it is designed to, sparing the motor and being a cheap replaceable part. Also depending on the set up, they can kick up as well. Hope that helps!

I am looking into one to go up river,if a torqueedo hits anything in the river they will start leaking inside the motor.Torqueedo calls this abuse and will not warranty their flimsy design.Many reports out there on this.Time will tell how Bixpys warranty is if this happens.If handled the same then it wont be worth a shit either.Torqueedo is an overpriced fragile piece of junk.As anglers are always prone to being in shallow water and can bump it into things underwater it needs to be able to hold up and have a company that acknowledges this and will back it in the event of a problem.

james ellis This has a three blade prop that is smaller in size than a dual blade torqueedo sure. It's advantage isn't lost anywhere in the water table, it's not a traditional jet. It has a thrusted cone on the back giving it jet like properties. 1HP equivalent, 30lbs of thrust, 100 gallon per minute is amazing for its size. You'd be amazed if you gave it a try. At over $800 in savings, we'll let the anglers decide if that torqueedo throttle is worth another 8-900 dollars. :)

Did I understand right, motor, battery and mount at $1099? Saw lot of negative comments on Bixpy video about price but any pedal or Mirage drive adds $1000 to kayak price. So, seems like a good price for what you get. Range could be 15 mile on one charge depending on conditions and weight of Yak and rider under 300 lbs. I want two, hang them off sides/ mounted like Boonedox landing gear. Two equals 10 MPH and 30 mile range then couple on a solar charger. Wake me up - Dreaming. Thanks for the video Aliex

bixpy cost $1,099...if money isnt a problem and weight is then bixpy for you. honestly your best bet will not be a kayak, for $1,065 to $1,504 get a meyers sportpal canoe. you will get far greater stability, capacity, and the canoe will weigh less than most kayaks going this route. feel free to do your own research but i think you'll find my claims aren't unfounded. if kayaks are truly your thing then you wont be spending any less than $1000 for a decent one. additionally you can pick up an entire minn kota trolling system that includes a 30lb thrust trolling motor, power center, battery, and a charger for less than $300 on amazon. you can do whatever the hell you wanna do i just thought as a new comer that you should know there is some better stuff out there.

Over a grand for bixpy is just obscene.

Gary rarely fish inland sir. Im a salty salt guy. I fish bays and ocean mainly. Plus you'd think that inland and rivers would be more abusive with obstructions and things to crash into and bottom out on. I have had a torqeedo Ultralight 403 for 5 years now and no issues ever.

Way faster is way faster! You pay for what you get! That is a standard rule. Not saying the Bixpy is bad, but lacking technology that you get with the Troqeedo Ultralight 403. The battery unit has a USB connectiion for charging electronics and running cameras. Personally i wouldn't connect a fish finder to the motor battery. A separate system for the fish finder/chartplotter is best due to thats my navigation. Im a saltwater angler primarily. Having my nav and chart on a separate system is best. The handheld option of the bixpy is acool but most anglers will never use that.

Way faster is splitting hairs, the conditions weren't great out, most kayaks will see 5 to 6 mph on a decent day. I'll admit it's nice to have a throttle controller over remote controller but at savings of close to 1k, the Bixpy serves it's purpose well. Does that unit have aux ports available for Fish Finders, GPS, or charge your phone? Lastly the batteries for Bixpy are stackable and can be swapped with minimal effort on the go. You could purchase two (808wh) and still be $700-800 cheaper. Then when you want to dive in the water and snag some lobster you add a Swimjet battery to the same motor and it's an underwater scooter. A bit off topic, I know... but the point is they serve slightly different purposes. One just does way more for a lot less, and it isn't the Torqueedo. :P

Way faster. Getting 7mph on my Kilroy. 5.5 on my Big Rig. Throttle controller although wired has read outs such as speed, battery life, range, and wattage usage. Plus Torqeedo has a 915 WH battery option.
