I've attempted to be vegan in the past (I'm a vegetarian now), but the fact that I'm still in school and living at home with two carnivores as parents doesn't make it easier. I didn't get enough nutrition, I was just tired and I lost too much weight, too fast. But as soon as I'm out of school and responsible for all of my meals I'm going to attempt it again and hopefully be better at it!

+signe olofsson There is a lot of things you have to re-educate yourself on when to comes to a vegan diet vs omnivorous diet, and it can be a lot harder when you aren't used to cooking/buying your own food let along being surrounded by less than supportive people. It's awesome you want to go vegan again in the future, but you're still being awesome by choosing not to eat meat, so good work! I wish I made the connection as young as you. :)

Glad to see you're going vegetarian/vegan! I've been vegetarian for 5 years and i've found that there's a time and place to talk about being vegetarian. Or when vocalizing your views you don't need to respond when they say something negative! :) (that helps me when with not becoming so frustrated) People are always going to have a problem until they decide to research and learn at their own pace, unfortunately.

This vlog reminds me so much of one you did last year, kayaking in Cape town with Lewis Pugh. I remember thinking back then, 'man, he looks so elegant in that kayak: like he was born to sit there and paddle.' Today's vlog brought back that thought. I just think its so cool looking seeing your paddle stroke and how smoothly you move through the water. It makes me want to join a kayak/canoe club.

Please do more kayaking when you get back to Cape Town! Its so much fun to watch!

Ecosystems all over the world relying on bees for pollination and without the commercial honey industry i'm sure certain ecosystems around the world would be much worse of if the sales of honey decreased along with bee numbers. I see bees as extremely crucial for our environment and i thought that one of veganisms main beliefs was to live in a way that looked after the environment, not boycott industries that are only positive for our planet.

I've been vegetarian for 4 years and at the start of last year I decided to go vegan. It lasted 12 months before health issues ensued (unrelated to veganism), but I spent that entire 12 months travelling Europe and living out of a backpack. If I can do that with such a restricted diet, anyone can be vegan! Especially in a much easier situation, like living at home or being in a position where you're in control of what you eat on a daily basis. Good luck Ben, and good luck to anyone else who has decided to go vegan because of watching these videos! You're doing an amazing thing for the environment, for your bodies, and for all the animals who suffer as cogs in the dairy industry. xx

Ben, just in case you thought I was being a negative poo head on the last video, just wanted to say that I absolutely support you in your choice to become vegan and since then I have gone on to watch Cowspiracy and have also been thinking of ways I can help be more responsible with what I eat. Sorry for the bad vibe, it wasn't my intention to dent your cathartic happiness. Every day I try and remember to be "nice to people" as you say and I guess sometimes we all slip up on that front so I'm sorry for that. Good luck with your vegan-ism and please include more dietary content in the videos, I'm sure a lot of Brownies would be interested to see what they can try and make at home too. I'm glad you said what you said at the end of the vlog. If you want to be vegan that's cool, but I'm very glad you're not going to start being preachy about it.
I would however be at least a little wary about the accuracy of some of the things discussed in Cowspiracy. You can't always just believe everything you're told because it is well presented. It is a big change to your lifestyle, so just be sure that you've got the facts, and not some well presented misleading statistics.

+TheRainydayvideo Not at all a stupid question. The cheese situation is hard, I've found a couple of Swedish vegan cheese products that I've fell in love with. There's also Wilmersburger and Violife. I've only tried Wilmersburger of those two, and I didn't like it.
The calcium you'll get through milk alternatives like oat milk and almond milk if you're looking for a drinkable way to get calcium. Other alternatives are tofu, garbanzo beans, white beans, dates, kale, and the list goes on... :)

+TheRainydayvideo I bet you'll love it. I went veggie 1.5 years ago, and vegan about 1 year ago. The transition went pretty smooth, I found vegan alternatives for all the stuff I "longed for". Almond and oat milk = favorites. Just remember your B12s and you're fine! BTW, love your videos :)

+TheRainydayvideo Personally it was really easy for me. At first I started buying the best meat replacements out there and ordered tofu and other mock meats at the cafeteria and restaurants instead of normal meat. And then I replaced milk which was really easy as there are tons of plant based based milks out there such as Almond milk, Soy Milk, Oat milk, Coconut milk, Hazelnut milk, Rice milk, Flax milk, Quinoa milk, Cashew milk, Sunflower Seed Milk, Hemp milk, Pistachio milk, Pecan Milk. Same thing goes with ice creams and yogurts as there are a lot of options. There are also a lot of egg substitutes as well as vegan options on some of the fast food chains and pizza places. However the time that I felt best was the time when I introduced way more fruits into my diet (Check out Freelee and durianrider on youtube). I also started eating a lot of starches (rice, potatoes, yams, pasta, noodles, quinoa, corn, barley, millet, wheat, oats, rye), legumes (lentils, peas, beans, chickpeas, soy, peanuts), sprouts, grains, nuts, seeds and vegetables as well. As you can see there are tons of options. I also bough an awesome pressure cooker called Instant Pot and a great blender called Nutri Ninja Auto IQ and I honestly don't know how I lived my life without them before. If you wanna educate yourself more on veganism I recommend checking out the facebook note that I wrote which I shared on my first comment. Google "Berkay Why Vegan?" if you can't see the link. I've tried my best and did months' worth of research and shared the best of the best resources which explains why everyone should go vegan in that facebook note. It's an awesome comprehensive collection of excellent educational materials about health, animals and the environment. Documentaries, speeches, videos, and documents addressing subtopics providing further links. Perfect for sharing as a whole, or for subjects of particular relevance. Hundreds of people already seen and shared my note and I've got a lot of awesome feedback from it. Many people became a vegan because of it so check it out if you want to see it :)

I was a vegetarian for over 10 years and recently gave it up due to a lot of different reasons. It's noble for you to go vegan, just follow what your body tells you and research both sides of the spectrum.
