Even though it is ridiculously expensive, I absolutely love it for saltwater, especially trout. I fished with 3" white curly tail grubs one time side by side with someone using 3" gulp swimming mullet, and I never caught a trout, he caught one nearly every cast however, from then on, I always fished gulp. We were using the same size and color jighead as well.

30 miles out, yet it only takes 25 mins to paddle back in? Do the maths and you'll find these guys are capable of propelling a kayak at more than 60 mph. I don't think all the lies they tell are true?
yakntexas
yakntexas - 11 years ago
man.... I don't take anything out into open ocean that can take on water... it really should be self bailing... if you take a wave over the front or side you will sink... I know of 20' aluminum boat that sunk when it took a un-expected wave over the side... try to use you boat in the surf and ride the waves... that will give you a good sense of what it will do when water comes over the side... it will be a lot of fun also!!!

Thank you. I don't have a Kayak, but always dream about getting one (and I watch the vids). I've seen mostly little, hard coolers mounted behind the seat so I never knew what folks did with large fish. Thank you so much. I just Googled it so, "Now I know!"

all big fish go in a kingfish bag (i call it) its a 3-4' long cooler bag made by native, that sits on the nose of the yak... yeah... weather wading a salt flat or yaking offshore, we dont put fish on stringers due to sharks...
Paul Cauthen

I hope they had a support boat somewhere. I also know that sharks come in larger sizes and wonder how their kayaks would have handled a bite?

sometimes tie to the rig but i like to anchor out.... the rig your talking about is about 120ft of rope on a pool noodle... (i put pvc in the noodle to make it rigid) ..we are always in about 40-60ft of water.. i just toss the whole rig overboard, i hook up to the float... ill unhook, troll around and come back and hook up and take a break... its like a little pool noodle island! ty

Cobia, or as we call them Prodigal Son sure taste good on the grill! Over here we get stick on rulers with the different fish lengths on them. Parks Board and tackle shops give them out every now and then. It's easy to just stick it on the side of the boat or kayak so you can know right away if your fish is a keeper or not.

Really? Only a 45 minute paddle out? I'm fishing out of Galveston and it seems like the rigs are a lot farther out, although that's just from eyeballing it from shore. It may be a lot closer than it looks. How many people normally go with you while you're fishing? I guess there's safety in numbers for being a couple miles out.

hey buddy.... the only reason i can use the song 30milsOut is because i own the rights to the song... i wrote and performed and recorded it.... i create all the music in my shows so they dont bother me about it.... you have 2 options in this situation... one, you can get an imac and use garageband or something and create some simple loops yourself ! (very easy and fun!) or you can google - free music for videos.... there are alot of guys who create music for you and you just have to give credit.

rusty keller
rusty keller - 12 years ago
Would it be a good idea to mount a rod holder in front of you, so you could stick your rod into it, and have both hands free to land, or unhook the fish? Also, you can take a woodburning iron, or soldering iron, and lightly melt a ruler into the top/side of your boat, then it's simple to just lay the fish on it, and eyeball a quick measurement before releasing it if you want to. You can paint the numbers, and lines and they will be easily visable. A divers note board and pencil works for notes..

Cobia are fish, they are great eating, especially on the grill. Looks like a remora, but taste great. Those other fish are spadefish, they look like angel fish, they are a schooling fish that love structure like pilings on rigs. Inshore, the fish are juvenile, and on the small side. Offshore these fish get over 5 pounds, and are a hell of a fight on light tackle. Picture a giant bluegill fight on lite tackle. They are excellant tasting fish, very light flaky fillet eats like flounder, snapper..
