yes my buddy zoffinger (youtube) does a lot of yak plastic work with a tourch... he also uses PVC pipe for the plastic molding.

If you keep your heat gun close to the repair spot as you're heating up your plastic when you lay it down it will actually bond with the plastic better.. a method I use for.larger real holes Is the melted cheese method. Lay it over the hole heat it until it sinks inside. The pull the original material over the fillerand basically weld it back together for a solid fix.

thanks my lady just hit a low unseeable brick wall but luckily it just pushed a small chunk up so i just heated it and pushed it back into the hole

Don't laugh but I melted a plastic Tupperware dish over the cut and let it drip into the crack. Waited a day and applied marine putty to it. 3 years now no leaks.

I thought you would have cleaned your plastic before welding it on there. Nice job, otherwise. Maybe try using a putty knife instead of a screwdriver?

It is bullshit! Plastic is not a metal and does not conduct electricity. When you head and melt plastic, an electrical charge will be collected on the surface. Thiis effect is called "surface polarization".

Hobie also sales a kit with plastic sticks and a soldering iron to patch their kayaks. Also when rigging your kayak, save the shavings from all the holes you drill. You can use that to patch holes. I have a zip lock bag full of shavings and have used a lot of it to fill in holes left from removing factory hardware. It looks like nothing was ever there.
