DIY Kayak Scupper Plugs

I needed a set of scupper plugs and figured I could "make" them myself or something to that effect, so here it is. Check out www.thelosthiker.com for more videos and tips!

Well, I put in the golf ball scupper plugs, If I get a chance tomorrow I will test them out, they were a pretty tight fit so they may just work.

Thanks, I've had this boat for almost 5 years now and they still work great! Occasionally one will pop out when I'm hauling it on the interstate, but thankfully they're cheap to replace!

not to mention you have your general trolls who just do it because they have absolutely no reason to do so.

I drilled a hole through mine and ran paracord through (double-up) and tied a knot so you easily remove it by grabbing the loop at the top.

Good idea, do you notice much leakage? The only ones I usually remove are in the very front of the footwells under the pegs since that's where water splashed in usually collects.

Great suggestion I did exactly you show and it work well, but since they are placed in top of the Kayak the water pressure maybe will push the golf ball off , so I mounted in the under area of the Kayak and they are very thigh , plus a I have an extra set of balls just in case.  Again very practical and affordable idea Thanks.

Thank you so much. I'm new to kayaking and was about to make quite an investment for our 2 tandem yaks each with 8 scuppers.

I love your idea! It works like crazy. And its so inexpensive. Been out in the lakes for hours without getting wet. Thank you for sharing.

No, they're pretty easy to poke out with the butt end of a rod handle, but they still fit snug enough that they don't come loose in rough water or during transport on the top of my truck doing 60-70mph.

Is it hard to remove them once they're in there...just in case you do need them to drain or anything...
