Fish Of A Lifetime vs. Your Life

www.AllAboutTheBait.com Today I wanted to focus my attention on Pinfish. Because the rudder on the Hobie was destroyed, making it virtually useless in the wind and current, I decided to take out the Tarpon 140 paddling kayak for a quick Tarpon session. While out on the water I was fortunate enough to hook into a Tarpon. To many, it is a once in a lifetime catch. While fighting the Tarpon, a storm rolled through making it very sketchy. I had to decide whether to keep fighting the fish and risk the storm, or break it off and get back to the safety of the launch. Sometimes, those types of decisions have to be made and you need to have a clear head to make them. Fish safely. If you know fish will be that big why don't you use heavy gear and baitcaster? You're using a light set up to catch giant size fish. It's like using a bb gun to try and kill a 1000 pound moose.

Lightening aint no joke.  A tree next to my house got hit yesterday complete with burning bark and smoke in the middle of a heavy down pour.  Two more strikes very close and I could hear a tick from my main breaker box a fraction of a second before the thunder.  The power is amazing when your 50 feet from a strike.

Between this one and the nighttime tarpon when you wound up getting pulled wayyyy out, I'd have to say that you have the most extreme kayak fishing channel on yt. You are always super calm and clear-minded whenever it gets sketchy. Around the 14 min mark I was like ok he needs to get out of there. Pretty hardcore man!

Thank you for showing in the footage that you made it back ok. I would have broken him off way earlier. I am not a Patron but what is the cost of an anchor I would def like to assist if not get it for you. Thank you very much for moving back to the fishing videos instead of the t-shirt videos. Your catch and cooks are my favorite so more of those would be appreciated. Side Note haw do you cook, clean, and eat tarpin?

It depends which Kayak you get and how far you wander on your own. If possible always go out with a partner, life jackets, waterproof mobile and just check out the tide timings online for the area where you want to fish. I am not promoting Hobie Kayaks, but I have a 2016 Outback from Hobie and these things are super steady and if you even want a more room and stability you could go for the Pro Angler models for example. Point is Kayak fishing is awesome and depends what you are fishing for, I wouldn't want a tarpon on my line from a Kayak either :D

Kayak, Carbon fiber rod, Thunder & lightning hmmmm? Sounds perfectly safe to me :)

Lightening will hit the highest point sitting in the middle of the ocean holding a rod makes you the highest point apparently carbon fiber has similar conductive properties as metal maybe not as good but it wont matter if a bolt of lightning hits it.

Does carbon increase your chances of getting struck?

Did you give that baby shark a motorboat??? Steve, you are too funny. I really enjoy watching your videos, however. I think you should have a bigger Kayak or a flats boat. Calling all sponsors...this guy is AWESOME!

Great footage. Especially the jumps.Too bad about the weather coming in and spoiling the party. Keep up the good work. You got to have balls to fish in those squalls.

Yeah, that's very familiar looking because I live in the Keys myself (100 miles north of Steve in Key Largo), and been out on the water many times in those situations, but fortunately a in a boat with a motor that can get up and go vs. a double-ended paddle lol.

That would have been a fish of my lifetime. It looked you tightened down on the drag to speed up the process (either land the fish or break off) but since I dont get the opportunity to fight a tarpon like that... i probably would have kept up with the fight and dealt with the storm. Nice job Steve... always entertaining.
