I'm not ambidextrous at all for the most part and was definitely stuck casting right handed before I got into kayak fishing. But since I started fishing out of a kayak I have become very proficient at casting with both hands regardless of the type of cast.
I can safely say that it has made me more versatile in all aspects of my fishing now. Regardless if I'm on the bank or a bass boat or in a kayak.

I try to do it but it takes a while to get good at. Im much more accurate with my dominant hand.

Chad, you have told me, US!, about turning yak sideways to fish to set the hook. ( i also notice just retrieving a bulky bait will turn my yak. ) And thanks for continuing to inspire and instruct me, US!, how to become a better ANGLER and not only a bass fisherman. I will work on casting with off hand. And yes, when i am catching is when i prefer to try a new lure. Or juice.

Best way that I learned how to cast with both hands cane when I was fishing jerkbaits off a rip rap dam for walleyes at night. Most of the casting is as parallel as possible since most of the fish would come up shallow to feed and being able to pick up a cast from one side and whip it immediately to the other side was a huge benefit.

I'm right handed and when I need to cast to my right I find myself doing it like a racquetball backhand with both hands on the pole like a what they call a backswing. Probably wrong all day long but I've always done it that way.

I remember that video you were talking about. That was one of the O.G KBF videos featuring ms Kristie. I can honestly say I never considered the advantages of fishing with my off hand. I notice most right handed anglers cast with the right hand and then when the lure lands they have to switch hands to reel with the right hand. I'm left handed, I cast with my left hand and I reel with my right hand so theres no swapping hands for me. I suppose it makes sense when pitching off the right side of the kayak so that would be an advantage. Hmmm I think I need to be practicing. Good video, always makes me think.

Being ambidextrous also helps in alleviating fatigue in your dominant arm. I switch when my RA flares up in my right hand. Thanks for another very helpful video!
