What type of setup did you have? I want to try this for catching catfish, gars, trout, drums etc. would you recommend using a floater and about 2 or 3 feet of line for catching trouts and drums? For catfish i was thinking of maybe a drop shot..idk what do you think? Amazing kayak btw, id love to have one of those one day.

I use a big spinning reel for trolling. you want to keep the drag set for hooksetting and fight. no 2-speed system. so the rubber band trick is very helpfull. when trolling in hot sun with a longer period without a bite (ok, maybe that doesn't happen to you..lol) your rubber band never got sticky, leaving bits on the line? great channel - a sub!

when you troll with a minnow lure or other, do you use the same method? also, do you need to attach a small weight on the line or just free line it for a natural presentation if any what size leader is recommended?

Thanks for the tips. The rubberband tip was incredible, hahhh...burns through. Starting out like I am, gear is trickling in a little at a time, so that tip will come in handy.

I have a Hobie also, and i love it! I started with a traditional sit on top, and it didnt work for me at all. To akward with a paddle when i big fish hits. Hands free is the way to go ;)

Great tip with the rubber band, except that it's gonna end up in the water and get swallowed by something with less discerning tastes. When that fella bio-degrades the band is probably gonna get swallowed by something else again. Pity. Good instructional video anyway. Keep em coming.

I have always enjoyed fishing and recently bought an ocean Kayak (Prowler 13). I have fished with lures from a boat and shore before for Bass but this is new to me. What is the best type of lure to use from a kayak. I fish in what we call gullies the lures get caught, lots of weed and various sea depth, they either go to deep, get caught or skip along the surface. What is he best distance behind a kayak to troll? Lady angler from Jersey CI UK. Any advice would be welcome. am frustrated!

that rubber band trick might not do the trick. Like you stated you burn the rubber band. that might damage the line when your fighting a big fish.

Great video. Thanks!!!! I live on South Shore of L.I. & am new to kayak fishing. Already loving it. I own a pungo and have caught fluke, flounder, and snappers in local bays. Any suggestions for drifting and casting artficial baits.(i.e. speed, type of bait, rigging, etc)? Also would like to try for blackfish and porgies what's the best bait? Any other tips, websites, etc. for inshore saltwater fishing, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

I'm just getting into Kayak fishing in part from a few months fishing in Florida. I rented a Yak and went into no man's land. I caught more fish than on the flats boat! My Capt. buddy told me to get way back in the mangroves where boats can't. I'm back in Maine with a new fishing Kayak and learning all I can. Thanks to all who put useful info. on you tube!! I've learned more going through vids. than i could have in months!! I'm in fresh water going after anything thats biting!
