thanks for this, I was new to kayaking and ended up at sea capsized and soon found out just how difficult it can be to get back on my sit on top (I'm a large man), if it wasn't for a friend holding my yak I don't think I could have done it and would have had swim back to shore with the Kayak, I will be looking at a paddle float for sure.

Went Kayaking for the first time in the sea yesterday, and managed to capsize in deep water. It took about 5 attempts in very choppy water to get back on, having no initial idea how to do so. This video is great. Thank you.

Great demonstration. I will pass it on.
Two suggestions. First, after overturning  your body will be low in the water like a sea anchor and your boat will be bobbing on the surface like a cork ready to be quickly blown away from you...if your not holding onto it. So hold on to it. Since you will likely need your hands to put the float bag onto the paddle you can use put your foot into the boat, or under a line.  Second, my personal preference is to put the bag on the paddle and then secure the paddle to the boat.  And of course this is all a lot easier since you wore your life vest and you don't have to tread water. Be safe.

Thanks for that video...I told my sister and niece that if they were kayaking they would want to stay close to shore and go together as re entering a kayak is a lot harder than it looks...and to prove it I took them just over their head and let them try. They couldn't do it. And we had lots and lots of laughter while watching them try. I will show them this video and we will try it next year when the weather is warm and we need to get cooled off. Your techniques look like it will work. Thanks again. :)

thanks Jason and Dave,I turtled in  the sea at Scarborough Reef recently, and if I had not watched your video 3-4 times would not of had a clue on How To Re-Enter a Yak,I haven't practiced Re-Entry and did exactly without panic or fear what was shown, and I can say without seeing your video's I would not of had a clue on how to re-enter, I do suggest as you do practicing how to Re-Enter or get lessons and have shared your video with My Son and Nephews hoping to give them an insight on self rescue, and when the water is warmer will practice for sure, so many thanks and keep up the great Videos, I now have anchor set up with a break away system

Loved your video, but you have MISSED a brilliant tip to not capsize in the first place... Take two paddles out with you. One to propel the kayak and the other one with an inflated paddle float on each blade strapped behind the seat like in your vdeo :)

you mean the Water Ski handle? Hardly a ladder, but simply a modified sling method and the sling takes up less room.

hmm... good question and brings up many safety precautions pre trip... if you have hurt your arm in a way that you cannot lift your self back on I would think you wont be paddling anywhere, you would need to call for help or get towed by a fellow paddler,,, they would also help you get back in.. I have not tried it one handed but am pretty confident the paddle float with stirrup option will work, wont look pretty but will work.
