Why do throw a hard buckle so it can hit the finish of your car?

Being someone that has lost a rack, had a strap fail and have had a rack collapse, I would HIGHLY recommend you put a bow and stern line on this or these boats. I routinely carry 3 kayaks atop a VW Jetta , a Toyota Highlander and an Exterra. I had a rack seperate from the VW Golf, one collapse under severe braking on a VW Fox . Both times the stern line saved the boats from destruction and minimized damage keeping it to scratches on my vehicle: AS opposed to liabilities for other drivers.  A friend had 2 NDK boats leave his new GM Vehicle  when the factory racks separated from the SUV he was driving. That was at highway speeds and only his property was damaged. It was repaired by the car company.  I am at this a while.

Yes. Rack strap is a no-brainer, it's bow and stern straps that are often difficult. Might need to install a short loop under the hood. In cars with trunks you'll need to use a piece of tube in the trunk, with the strap looped around the tube and going through the crack on the closed trunk.

Thanks for your comment - the bow and stern line sounds like a good idea.

I'm pretty sure it's a rack and makes no difference if it's on an electric smart car or semi truck

We've used regular 3m ties that you can get at any hardware or fishing store. The key here is to get something that is nice and thick. Check the weaving on the strap, if it looks frayed and untidy, the chances are it's not going to work so well.
