Just curious, is it physically possible to roll a fully loaded kayak which out doing major body damage?

Hi Roddy, yes it is. In-fact if you load your kayak correctly with the heavier items loaded at the bottom then it is far easier to roll a loaded kayak compared to an unloaded kayak. You must make sure that all your loaded items are tightly locked into place. This also ensures that the load can't shift when in rough waters.

what if you roll in a kayak without a spray skirt on? is it possible to roll back up or will you fall out?

You would fall out 99% of the time and the amount of water that your kayak would take on would sink it and make it too hard to roll as well.

sorry for dumb questions, " i have lots of them" but doing this alone, isnt that dangerous?, Id love to watch the vids and get out and practice etc. but should that really be done?

?? Nobody is ever "strapped" into his kayak ! The only things that are keeping you into the kayak while upside down is 1) your skirt, which you can release easily, and 2) your knees that apply pressure on the side of the cockpit , holding you into position and controling the lateral angle of the kayak.

So @bmwS1000, yes you safely can practice this alone, but it is not recommended just because at the beginning you will fail your roll and be forced to exit the kayak and swim. You'll be tired after doing this a couple of times so it won't be very productive.
The other drawback is that nobody can watch your mistakes and correct them.

Yeah, don't do this alone, you are strapped in the kayak.
it isn't too hard to do, but, if you fail you die.

yes! you actually can learn to roll from these videos alone. Break the roll down into little segments you can remember underwater and simply do them in order.

I also learned to roll from these videos. I joined a seakayaking class at my local rowing club (similar to epp2) and because i'm that kind of guy i totally bragged for fun that i'd master a roll before the weekend was out. The instructors took me up on it and told me that no one rolled the first weekend. My few attempts at rolling saturday went.... poorly. So home i went to watch youtube videos on rolling and sunday afternoon, after one failed attempt, i finally rolled my kayak. Thank you, Ken.

Awesome video(s). I have learned to roll purely from watching these clips and then going out and practicing. Even now that I can actually roll I still watch them closely and pick up pointers to improve. Lately I have found how critical the 'Hip Snap' is, once you get the hip snap working it makes life a LOT easier! Cheers.

I can't do rolls at all. I've only had 2 lessons. I was kayaking today and kept going upside-down and almost drowning. I couldn't work out how to get the spray deck off so was just thrashing around in the water. Somehow I survived, and it was great fun! I want to do it again!

You don't necessarily need thigh pads or knee pads to roll, but they certainly help. Think of any of these accessories as they are, points of contact with the boat, the more points, the more control you exhibit on the craft you are paddling. I rolled in a kayak without extra outfitting by bracing my knees against the sides of the boat. With that being said, the extra points of contact make the roll much easier.

Wish I could have seen this video before I took a course in rolling. The course was fairly unhelpful. After studying the video, I rolled on my third try without an instructor.
