I see your kayak sticks out quite a ways from the rear of your vehicle. I have a 2018 Hobie Pro Angler 14 that I load in the back of my 2001 Honda Odyssey. Of course, the rear seats are folded down under the floor and the 2 middle seats are easily removed which allows a good portion of the Hobie to rest inside the Honda. Once loaded I use 2 tie straps to hold it in place. One that goes around the Hobie into the holes utilized for safety chains in my trailer hitch. The second one goes into one of the holes in the trailer hitch and then through a handle in the lower part of the rear hatch and back down to the other side of the trailer hitch. I cinch that down and the hatch gently rests on the top of the Hobie.
The concern I have is that I travel early in the morning (dark outside) with lights on and I was concerned about someone hitting the Hobie due to no lights on the extended portion of the Hobie that stuck out the rear of my vehicle. I made a temporary light kit and found it to be helpful. I now have an idea to make a really nice one with LED lights that I may offer for sale in the future. It will attach to the H Rail at the rear of the Hobie Pro Angler 14.
Just wondering if others out there have the same concern or if anyone else has already developed this idea.

The reflective decals are a good idea. Enjoy your videos.
What I wanted to do is have the tail lights, brake lights and turn signals at the rear most part of the extended point of the Kayak as night time visibility can be difficult especially for old guys like me. Ha Ha
Thanks again for the information and quick reply.

I won’t necessarily fund your project, but I will not disclose your idea or use it without authorization. I will review it and if I see merits will consider funding it or assist you in ways to do so. Do you think you have the skills to build a prototype? What kind of money do you think it would take to build proof of concept? Another option would be patent and licensing it to an existing manufacturer of kayaks.
Email me. I know various people in the space.
