Everybody is motorizing Kayaks. I did notice he didn't try and car top it. But he trailer it. I own a Gheenoe, basically a oversized Kayak/canoe with a trolling motor and a 9.9 O/B that I can paddle like a kayak. It's American Ingenuity. A true kayak is the Eskimo covered kind in Walrus hide and not plastic.

this is a dumb idea. You have all the disadvantage of both a kayak and motorboat combined into one, but none of the advantages. this is a super small, unstable, cramped, heavy, high maintenance, noisy, expensive motorized floating object with all the hassles and fees and registration requirements of a full sized motorboat. Might as well get a full size boat with a motor.

Explorer Mike its not a bad idea. Whomever designed it probably had the ocean in mind & it looks very stable. The outriggers are an added bonus for even more stability. as far as getting it around all you'd need is a good tote.

To the people stating that this is not a kayak due to the motor. I had to motorize my Hobie after a motorcycle accident. Did that stop making it a kayak? Hobie makes an electric drive unit.
Maybe the it is the engine type and noise then? Well that is a really fine line to walk.
I bought a PWC a while after the Hobie so I could get out further. In a normal fishing day, how far can you paddle? I can idle quietly at 3-5 mph all day long.
Is it proper to attack it because it doesn't fit into your narrow definition of a kayak??

One of the main beauties of kayaking for touring, fishing etc is the connection to nature. The silence of gliding along with little disturbance. The added bonus is that it also keeps you fit. These power craft are the antithesis of those qualities. The wake and noise disturb the wildlife and the peace for anyone who is out there ACTUALLY kayaking. This is NOT a kayak.

+Darth Teabagger Pardon my ignorance but what is SOT? I'm fairly new to fishing kayaks. Before I bought the Oldtown Predator I tried about 15 other kayaks. In Australia, we don't have too many places I can physically visit to try various models. I thought I actually overpaid for my one, but it was one of the better and more comfortable ones I tested.

Yes I enjoy the purity & physical nature of paddling etc as it's great exercise, but I can't say I wouldn't like to have this. I don't fish enough to deem myself needy of such a machine, but I still think it's a great invention.

OF COURSE that is my opinion, but it is also common sense. You were as wrong as the kid in the video, you just don't want to admit it due to foolish pride. Also, using the same term for multiple things within the same subject matter (fishing gear) is confusing and shows how little common sense you have. Yes there is something wrong with using it that way. It is WRONG and RIDICULOUS! i.e. upside down and makes you look retarded. Besides, these reels have handles that can usually easily be switched to the opposing side. Their weigh dictates that is hangs BELOW the rod, otherwise it will want to flop over to the underside of the rod anyway. I'm right handed as well, but I still reel spinning reels with my left hand-others with my right hand. BTW, "spinners" are baits-not reels. Reels are "spinning reels" (or "egg beaters" as a slang).

I fished with a spinner 25 years ago when I was a kid because I reeled left handed and it was on the right did also because thats how I used my 202.....did it that way for a couple years till I got my first bait caster, either way nothing wrong with using it that way maybe it was the kids prefrance
