these motors are as noisy as a weedeater, but its posible to very easily and cheaply make a muffler, (silencer) for them, i made one and works very well. here is a good tutorial: https://youtu.be/GY7hzmHnef4

You realize you're going to need a motor-boat license for a motor that powerful on a kayak? (Ie. anything over 34 lb of thrust...) Just letting you know before the coast-guard sees you! ;)

It's really just an unnecessary bureaucratic hassle... and I think Marine and Harbors think it's a waste of their time too.

Last year when I renewed my own exemption I was informed they were actually trying to get a blanket exemption for kayaks with trolling motors under the limit, but I haven't heard any updates on that yet.

Don't suppose I will 'til I renew it again next Feb...

Yes, in AUSTRALIA! That's where I am... and even if you put a trolling motor on it which is under the 34 lb (=150 Newtons of thrust) limit, you will need to apply to the Department of Marine and Harbors for an exemption from the usual motor-boat licensing requirements. This exemption is free but you must renew it each year.

Mind you, I'm in Sth Oz... maybe things are different in Tassie... but I doubt it. It'd be wise to check with the Department of Marine and Harbors if you have put a motor on your kayak, or if you are planning to do so.

It's at his shoulders. A bit high to raise the hand to pull the rope while sitting, but doable. I am more concerned about stability with 12kg off the side, and motor head that high.

you need a better kayak. Flat bottom so it plans on the water would make a very big differnece.

Nice to see thouh. Hate all the electric shit and that engine was small enough to carry. Where did you get it from?

Shorten the rigg so the propeller is about 2 inches under the kayakbottom and put the engine at the back aned of the kayak. Then you could put the gas to the feet and steer with your paddle or a rodder.

It's about a necessity, not a speed. Saves you paddling on a hot day. 10-12 km/hour is all you can get out of a setup like this. Riding faster and without outriggers will be a suicide. On my canoe with 2.5 HP motor (transom mounted) I can't open throttle more than 1/3, the bow is riding too high, with me seated midship, long tiller extension.
