Thanks for the video! I just ordered/received the mounting bracket.. disappointed it did not come with a set of screws/bolts.

The Scotty products don’t come with bolts usually. Railblaza mounts are what I have started to use more of. Railblaza has everything included. Scotty still makes a great product but fasteners are often sold separately.

Believe your computer is malfunctioning or you honestly may need to go in for a hearing check. Don't mean to be rude, but that is the truth. The vocal volume is more than easily heard. The quality of the audio vocal recording (clarity) could be better, but the volume is fine. I will try to get better microphone equipment. YouTube doesn't make me rich. I just try to provide honest, non-bias, easy, detailed instructional videos for "free" to viewers.

Just talked to someone over at Scotty customer service and they said that they have it noted in their books that the 132 long rivers will NOT work for the 241 mounts and that well nuts have to be used. I have an Ocean Kayak, which is a little thicker walled, but I was surprised to hear this since I was originally told by Scotty CS when I was purchasing all my equipment that the 3/8-1/2 132 long rivets are good to go. Any input before I start drilling holes in my yak?? Thanks.

@Regnier X (aka Alex X): The rivets should work. If they didn't then maybe will have to find longer ones yet. Maybe you have a thicker kayak hull than normal. That is kind of surprising. Have used the same rivets on multiple kayaks. Maybe these will work better. These have a grip range of 3/8" to 1/2". http://amzn.to/1EUCTHJ

I am having a problem with the rivets.So far i have tried this twice with the the Yak Gear trigrip rivet set and it seems the rivets do not expand far enough to go under the kayak hull but expand while partially through the 241 mount. (I plan on using the mount for a ascend12 kayak as a anchor mount) I used a 3/16th drill bit to drill the hole in the kayak.

Well nuts are probably a bit stronger than rivets but we haven't had issues with tri-grip rivets that we have linked in video description. We use them for a lot of accessories.

NOTES:
If you choose to apply well-nuts don't use any silicone sealant.

Bolts, nuts, and washers are the best option for attaching the Scotty 241 mount but require access to inside of hull.

Another great way to provide a lot of strength when mounting is to use a backplate. These can be bought or made but also require access to inside of kayak.

If you use rivets make sure to buy the Tri-grip rivets for kayaks as linked in video description. 13/64" holes drilled provide a nice tight fit for the rivets we used. We chose them because we didn't have inside hull access and we have had great luck with them.

Mighty Mounts work great with the 241 Scotty Mount if you want to have it install the rod holder mount on a sliding track like "GearTrac".

Correct. It isn't recommended to use silicone or marine goop for well nuts. It can make them slippery and cause them to pull out easier. Most well nut manufacturers will state not to use such sealants. Well nuts are meant to seal by themselves.
