So many peasants complaining about price point.
If you can't afford it buy something that fits your budget.

Have you seen the price on folding bikes compared to regular ones?
The light weight is great for people going to inaccessible areas as well.
Definitely would like to test one out.

How much weight can it carry?  I hope we don't have a case where 300 pound kayak enthusiasts need not apply.

PFFT! Inexpensive my butt .

It's a bit on the expensive side, especially if you consider what it's made of, it should be way cheaper then that. Guess gotta pay for the few of these that they will buy, because be honest, if your gonna spend money on a kayak your gonna spend money on a decent normal one, while it's very cool, I don't see many people thinking it's worth it.

If I was elderly and lived somewhere with slot of small lakes and I wanted the exercise the yes.
But I am not elderly I way 260 lbs and am 6 ft 4 in and I love the ocean so no.
amandaggogo
amandaggogo - 10 years ago
As someone who hates loading and unloading my kayak to the top of my tiny car, and nearly broke my sunroof once because I forgot my kayak was strapped to the top of it, this would be awesome. Also, only 26 pounds? That seems pretty lightweight and therefore easier for someone with weak little arms like mine. I want three.
mobiussquadron
mobiussquadron - 10 years ago
"how does that compare to the price point of other kayaks?"

"oh it's about in the middle"

Yeah if you count the several thousand $ carbon fiber ones. I paid 550 for mine, and  have put it through hell, and haven't had a problem.  The pros of this over mine : it's lighter, and it folds down really small.

Mine  is faster to setup once I carry it to the water (put the seat in, screw the light/flag on, connect the paddle strap. takes about a minute). The color on mine is an olive drab color, so it's easier on the eyes, and you can put stuff on it such as an anchor trolley. I can see why this one appeals to people, but with me having a truck, it just isn't worth it.

great innovation guys, not so great on ur marketting, more buyers have lower budgets then buyers with $1100,ofcorse word of mouth requires alot mouths to tell & its also the best way to build product faithfulness into the future. if only you guys could have been profit gentle,it wont hurt you to make alil less inthe begining, justo gain it all inthe end. pretty much shot urself inthe leg.goodluck .
Paul Hedrick

Pretty clever and convenient. A piece of art. But they market this boat as a do everything kayak. However, unlike rigid kayaks, it has no water tight hatches to assist in self-rescues.  Adding inflatable float bags in the bow and stern would probably be a good idea, but then it starts to lose convenience. The seating systems needs to be fairly minimal, but is maybe a little too minimal compared to other manufactured options. I think this boat is probably well-suited to be a lightweight, handy rec. kayak.
MortimerEsq
MortimerEsq - 11 years ago
Wow... price on their website is now $1100. I guess business must be good. I was considering one of these for $500, but at $850 I said no. Now $1100, that's a lot to pay simply for the folding feature. Corrugated plastic, there's must be huge profit in these.
MortimerEsq
MortimerEsq - 11 years ago
They also say on the site it can withstand "20,000 fold cycles without structural damage." I doubt that. The warranty is probably one year and they are counting on the average user folding and unfolding it 10 times, if that, so making the 20K cycle claim is a safe bet, the same as those Ginsu knives coming with a lifetime warranty. Who is going to make a claim on a $20 knife even two months into use. LOL.
MortimerEsq
MortimerEsq - 11 years ago
I agree with you. They say on their website it is not meant for any kind of rough water. It is obviously not something serious kayak enthusiasts would consider. And at the other end of the spectrum there's the "Kayaking seems fun" crowd who will but this, MAYBE try it once, then let it sit in the garage. Eventually those will end up on Craig's List for $200.

The cost to make one is "fairly inexpensive" yet they're selling it for a "comfortable" price of $800... That's not "in the middle." I could buy 2 or 3 kayaks made out of a more expensive material with that amount of money... Their target market is obviously not the middle class. Try to lower the price and you'll increase your sales.

I agree with you, there's no reason why anyone should care about how soon I clicked on a video. I didn't comment to brag, I commented because I felt the need to mark the occasion, which is still dumb, but I, like you, don't give a fuck. No one is being made to read youtube comments. If they do then that's their problem.

That's boring though. =P I understand where you're coming from though, it did make me think about it for a minute. But things having to do with a specific time period are just more interesting to me. A few days ago I went for a run, said I'd be back in twenty five minutes, between various runs, strength excersises, water drinking, and resting, when I got back I looked at my watch and it had been exactly fifteen minutes to the second, sorry if you don't think so, but that's interesting to me.

Yeah I agree. I bought one last year for about $550, 16ft pelican with rod holders, But that does not fold up and fit into a closet. For that I say it deserves a bit of a premium. I think they may be comparing to performance/rapid kayaks. I'm willing to bet yours as well as mine are not made for river rapids. I mean you can throw this thing into your trunk, no need for a truck or strapping it to your roof or trailer. Awesome!

Consider this: Right now there are three books lying on my desk in a peculiar configuration. Think about this... I am probably the first person in the universe, in the entire history of it, that have placed these exact three objects (namely these books) in this exact configuration. It's being done for the very first time... ever! Isn't that remarkable? Now, just imagine my enthusiasm! Since you were talking about improbability.

Because it can fold and is easier to bring with you? If you wanted to bring what you bought home and you had to walk, would you rather pay one dollar in a store for a heavy metal bag or pay one and a half dollar for a plastic bag that's easier to bring with you?
