If you turn that glue upside down after using it it will not dry up on you and you can keep it fresh longer. Thanks for sharing.

I think you paid too much for the drill, but hey it did the job...

I think running a cord the length of it pur holes in the end caps to keep the tube contained.

Put a pool noodle float along the length of one side so it floats, use zip ties to mount pool noodle.
I made one and it works great !!
Also,so that you don't lose the lower tube, put a 550 para cord line going up to the lid line.
NICE CHEAP BAIT TANK !!

You should do holes in front cap and back to help circulate the water

Where I live in the Pacific Northwest the scent may just a track Killer whales. But here's a thought about making it
float better. Strap some pool noodles to it maybe a bit on the front and back just enough to keep it half buoyant.

this is pretty expensive though, the 4 inch pipe alone is 20$ for 10 feet at home depot, thats the smallest lenght they have, then u said u paid 10 dollars for everything else, u already had the 4 inch pipe u said, so that would mean 10$ for fittings and pvc cement thats like 30$ but u will be able to make like 3 or 4..... expensive or u could pay the same amount and get a hobie kayak live well that mounts on to your kayak with bungee cords and other brackets lol imma go with the hobie live well

For everyone making there own Home Depot sells sewer pipe already perforated and it's a lighter gauge so it won't weigh as much dragging behind your yak still pvc just already has holes drilled

+Countryboysoutdoors 16 I just made it with what was laying around the house. I wasn't trying to spend any money lol.

If I cut slits in the caps so water would flow through would it work as a pull along live well? Use it on a freshwater kayak.
VF6
VF6 - 6 years ago
+Red Beard doing a slit would probably work better, not at first but after it filled with water, but when its filling with water it might drag along

+Josh Sharp yeah prolly. Its designed to pull along. I just used a drill because its easy.

I've never seen such a short power cable on a drill before. Great video by the way, I'm thinking of using the larger diameter pipe, to see if I can fit more baits in.

Hey Jack,
I'm thinking about making a bait tube like yours but i like to cover both ends with nets that I get from my old cast net to reduce drag and then I make an opening along the tube to get baits in and out of the tube. what do you think? Will that work?

I'm still waiting Paul. How did it go?

Nice.  Can you post a video (or just comment) so we can see how your tube drifts through the water?  How much drag does your tube have?  And does it float, suspend, or sink?  Thanks....MH
Yak Motley
Yak Motley - 6 years ago
+Critter Gitter the tubes work great! The drag is manageable and bait tubes are very popular around here. I would put some floatation on it because it will sink lol!

That sounds like a real good idea. I will be interested to know how it works. To reduce drag and give better flow you might want to add holes in both ends.

+angry fish Works great. Most the offshore yakers I know have them. Less drag while moving and trolling.

This got me thinking. Instead of putting kings and other long skinny fish on the front of your kayak in the hot sun, you could make something similar to this, but with 6 or 8 inch pipe and put your catch in that. Just a thought
Yak Motley
Yak Motley - 6 years ago
+Jeremy Lighthall I just pull it way behind the kayak with a rope.
Pine Float

That might be one of the best ideas I've heard of in a while, but the only concern I would have would be leaving a blood/scent trail in the water for sharks. I think its definitely worth trying.
Bodilly Q
Bodilly Q - 6 years ago
It would make a lot of drag in the water, but you could tie it to the sides of the kayak and it might add some stability, idk though
