Hi , greetings from Norway ? Do you think the faster fishing kayaks can be used instead of a touring kayak on more of a expedition style trips that last for several days ? or are they too slow and cumbersome ?

A long time ago, I did some paddling w/ sit-in kayaks in the lakes of the Adirondaks. Now I'm looking at a SoT for fishing inshore and inland. I've considered that my put-in locations are limited, and I need to be able to spend some time getting to a fishing spot, but I do have concerns about stability as well. I'm not afraid of getting wet, but I don't want dumping a boat full of expensive gear to be a regular occurrence, either. Given that you don't 'lock in' to a SoT like you would a sit-in, how much ability do you have to brace or scull should a wave or wake catch you from the side?

35" beam you say?! Have fun paddling that beast. Once you learn the balance points on whatever width kayak you have you will have allot more confidence knowing how far you can tip before going over.

i am a big guy those skinny kayaks will not hold my weight. plus most of my kayaking is going down river i do a lot of drift fishing. a friend of mine has one of those long skinny boats any he has trouble getting around fallen trees and rocks in the water. yea out on open water you might wants a longer boat but now were i fish.

Equating a fishing kayak with speed is a non issue. First, look at him sitting in the boat with his hips at the gunnels. That boat is so narrow it is NOT stable enough for fishing. A good fishing kayak with 35 inches of beam is much better and is not slower in design. It is obvious he is trying to sell a lesser boat with miss truths.
Buy a boat with enough length and beam to protect the kayaker (fisherman), and is capable of handling all fishing venues – off shore, flat water, low class rivers, etc. Pay attention to hull design, comfort factors, handling – the same as you would for a good car. Happy fishing, and stay safe.
