Took the 2019 Hobie Outback Kayak Fishing behind the South Padre Island (SPI) Convention Center with my buddies Luis and Richard. The water was glass and the water was super clear! There was non-stop speckled trout action all morning. Didn't catch anything of great size but we definitely caught numbers! Lures of the day were down south lures and berkley gulp jerk shad Filmed with GoPro Hero 7 and the Action Hat #MesquiteOutdoors

Hi mesquite= love your content.

I have a kayak collecting dust for the better part of 3 years.

I want to Go out but am afraid due to not knowing the area.

On a comment here someone even mentioned alligators around the convention center.

What are good kayak areas to fish around here? I prefer shallow water / calm too because I don't know how to swim..

Where do you go kayaking in Port M?

In new to the area more thank anything and also new to kayak fishing.

Bout a perception pescador about 3-4 years ago and only took it out to mustang island once...

Will research the areas you mentions and go from there.

I did go to port Mansfield in August 2018 and fished from the pier and waded a little - no luck , it was windy and water rough

That area behind the convention center is pretty shallow and relatively calm. I have only fished going north. I have never seen any gators. I've heard the gators are closer to the birding center which is south of the convention center. In port Mansfield I launch out of the South boat ramp south of the new pier. If you kayak near the shore it's not too deep. Other areas to check out are fishing near the causeway near the shore. I have fished south of the causeway there are some oyster beds there. South Bay is a great place to fish but you have to drive through Boca chica beach if you want to avoid the deeper areas. Areas I've heard are good to launch/fish but haven't tried is San Martin lake and near the Arturo galvan park in port Isabel. I think behind the convention center is a great place to try out if you haven't been out in awhile
