You can go past that fishing line if you actually understand what is going on, and is contious about how you bring it out of the water, and is not having spasms. If your on open water like a big lake or the sea however, then you must take it slow if its windy and Waves.

We purchased our first 10 ft sit on top kayak last wk. I kept hitting my hands on the side of kayak while paddling. Does this mean I need a different size paddle or is my stroke just off. I have never kayaked before and bought the the paddle that the academy worker suggested.

Some simple techniques here. Appreciate that advice. It's almost like learning how to swim more efficiently. I've been going out there and paddling away like a dork, haven't tipped yet but this should definitely help get some speed. Thanks.

Yeah but some people are stupid. I've only been in a kayak a few times but I figured this out pretty much instantly. Have yet to fall in or tip over, even when getting in and out.

still the advice is sound for paddling a better kayak. The bit about the diving blade angle was actually pretty well done. I'm a kayak guide and instructor registered with the ACA and BCU. dumbass yourself!

you are .a joke. I bought an 8 foot kayak and paddle and went kayaking. i would have to make an effort to turn it over and as you say ( go swimming). the problem with expert village is anyone can claim to be an expert, It is said it take a village to raise a a child. not a village of expert village idiots

Agreed... great for casual paddler and short distance... try that after 8 miles and you'll be sorry... if you are new to kayaking... try learning the proper technique that includes torso rotation techniques and learn how to set your paddle to the right degree for your personal style.
