Little confused certain parts of this video

1:21 Was he just spinning in place? If so then why did the next shot show him going down the river?
1:31 How did he turn left? Rivers never have other rivers branching off of them at ninety-degree angles, and it's implied he kept rowing in that direction (which led to the waterfall).
2:16 Is he still moving down the river? Because the background behind him isn't moving, but audio implies he's approaching the second waterfall.
