I recently purchased a lifetime lancer kayak. Is it normal to find plastic shavings in them when brand new? I've never owned my own. Also I know I am going to store them in the garage but what is the best method? Upside down on a rack? Right side up on a rack? In straps on their side on the wall? Really want to make sure I don't ruin my kayaks because I can't often afford to go get a new one. Thank you greatly in advance for any help.

I have the 8 foot sit on top and been using it a lot for months mainly for fishing. For the cooler weather I just bought some breathable waterproof waders, so I stay dry paddling and going into the water at first bringing in my kayak to sit on. Highly recommend breathable waders! I just add clothing insulation accordingly. These kayaks are tough, easy to maneuver, and lightweight to put on top of your car. I tried the bigger kayaks and I don't care for them because of their weight and maneuverability, but that's just me.

Tim, sorry about the people you knew who drowned. It depends on the type of waders and how you wear them. Personally, while on the kayak I always wear a life vest no matter if I'm in waders or just summer clothes.

2fast2block problem with waders is if and when you ever flip the yak, they will vacuum to your body and sink you to the bottom like a rock....I personally know two people that died this way while duck hunting

If you live in Florida, DO NOT BUY IT any sit inside! Any small excursions away from shore with some choppy seas will result in flooding, a diminished waterline and eventually flip which is UNRECOVERABLE far from shore, which could happen to you in the intracoastal waterways of SE FL.. A Sit on top Kayak is the answer since no amount of water will sink it, it just goes over and out, as well as if you flip due to heavy seas, you should be able to flip it back up and get on it. Don't really know why anyone would buy a sit in and not a water excavation pump. It's not difficult to pump water out. I've also never had water get in any kayak I've paddled from boat wake. Granted I only go on the bay and rivers but water doesn't get in them as easily as some people act like it does.

Huh? Of course it will stay afloat just under the surface of the water, then it roll and traps you inside. I have done hundreds of river miles with sit in kayaks and they are great until they get water in them and then dangerous and useless when completely filled with water. You should actually try it so you know or you wouldn't be writing such rubbish.

a plastic sit inside kayak like this won't sink. Sure, it can capsize and fill up with water which sucks worse than the sit-on kind. But it'll still stay afloat so it can be towed back to shore.

If your in south fl. then I want the sit in side. Too many gators to deal with. Besides, if you wear a life jacket like your supposed to ... then you will be ok..... unless a gator has you for lunch. :-)

Even in a river they don't track well and can easily go sideways trapping you. Sit is is way to go they need to leash 90+ sunblock to them.l at all a times

I do not understand what you mean. I have six kayaks and a canoe and fish from my sit-on-top kayaks out in the Atlantic Ocean all the time. I have not spent any time "in the water" except when going in for a swim (sometimes to relieve myself or cool down in the summer heat). And with, for example, the Manta kayak, your butt does not even get wet if you want to stay dry.
