Lifetime Tamarack Angler 100 10' Sit on Top Kayak Review

I bought this kayak for $278 at my local walmart with paddle. I looked around for a while and couldn't find a used one for under $300. I had been looking at an almost identical one for $450 at Academy when I stumbled upon this. I couldn't find any reviews for it so I made this video to help out anyone else considering this kayak. I was very happy with it. I took it against the current with ease as long as it wasn't too swift or shallow. It floated very well downstream, only need 4 to 5 inches of water with me in it. I am 6'2, 240 lbs, and with all my gear was close to the weight limit. I never felt tippy, I did plug the scupper holes in the seat and rear but left the leg ones open and didn't have any issues with water getting in. Has tons of below deck storage. Fantastic kayak for the price, leaves you plenty of money left to make upgrades if you want. Very light and easy to transport compared to other kayaks I looked at. Could really build up some speed when I wanted. I rate it a 10/10 considering it's price range!

T.J. Norfleet
T.J. Norfleet - 6 years ago
I would estimate I had that much weight total at the start of my 3 day camping trip. I did fine with all my gear and food cooler, but I would imagine adding any more weight would of made it unsafe. I would recommend looking into a 12' kayak so you have the ability to carry gear as well.

TJ - I just want to thank you for making the video.
I just purchased the same kayak - Walmart charges $50 for shipping - they no
longer have store pickup on this kayak nor do they keep it in stock in the store.
Still it's half the price of the same kayak at Cabela's.
But I want to thank you for making the video - your video was very helpful
in my decision to purchase it. Hope to do some fishing soon!

Fred Fisherman
Fred Fisherman - 6 years ago
I was researching the tamarack kayak from walmart, and your review of it sold me on it. Great kayak foe me - not a tournament guy but excellent for
my lake and pond fishing. Has enough leg room. I saw other videos on you tube where guys would place foam practice golf balls in the scupper holes.
Fits perfect and a lot cheaper than the plugs. I plugged the two scupper
holes by the seat with the foam golf balls. No problems - have dry seat. Great kayak - got one for my wife too! Thanks again for your review.

Fred Fisherman water gets into the kayak from paddling and fishing. I let all the water drain out. 6-7 months a year I don't mind being wet, the other 5 I usually wear my waders so it doesn't matter!

Nice review. Thanks for that. Help me out, here. With my Future Beach Angler sot my butt is actually sitting lower than my feet. Probably makes for a more comfortable ride, but, makes it really difficult for an old man like me to get out. Looks like the seat in your Lifetime is above foot level. Can you tell me how much higher the seat is from where you'd put your feet while standing, (or, exiting)? (With the arthritis in the shoulders, I don't have the upper body strength to push myself up. An extra couple of inches should make a big difference. BTW. Wally World has these priced at $210. Maybe a Cyber Week after Thanksgiving thing.
T.J. Norfleet
T.J. Norfleet - 6 years ago
Ken Zea its only an inch or two higher. You may want to look at adding one of those sit on seats, they seem to add 4-5". I dont know if that makes them tippier though.

I haven't taken them out surf. But the past couple times I've been surf fishing it's been very calm and I would take them out in those conditions. It's on my to-do list. I would say they are stable enough for surf when there are good, calm conditions. Otherwise these kayaks are best for protected bays, estuaries, etc. (where I have the most fun fishing anyway). Still loving them, particularly for the price.

You better check the length, as Lifetime changed their decal meaning, a Tamarack 100 meant 10'0 and the 120 model meant 120" (still 10 feet). Lifetime doesn't make single seat 12' kayaks, two seat kayaks yes.

I just bought this kayak and would definitely recommend it. Got it for $299 at Big 5. I also weigh about 240, and am 6'2, and it was perfect, size, weight, stability, everything. The thought didn't even cross my mind that it was too small or that there was too much weight in it. Wasn't riding low at all that I could tell, though I didn't have any gear with me. (cont...)-->

Also, never kayaked in my life, and I just ran 7 miles down a river that had some very minor rapids, and didn't flip it, despite a few couple foot drops. Definitely not prone to flipping. If it was, I'da flipped it. Must have been the drops where the nose went under, but there was probably a half gallon of water in the dry storage by the end of the trip. Maybe the lid wasn't turned tight...but I think it was.

TONS of storage. The one thing I don't like is the holes for the storage are small relative to how much storage there is. The storage is basically the whole hull of the boat. In fact, I couldn't reach back far enough to access it all...so careful how you pack, otherwise you'll be tipping the kayak up to get your items to slide to where you can get it. And again, since the storage access holes are so small, you can't exactly peek in there to see where an item is if you can't reach it. That was my only qualm....but for the amount of storage it has, I'll take it. Great kayak, though honestly, I have nothing to compare it to. But I really like it.

And BTW, the ability to adjust the back support so easily was awesome. Really comfy back support. Butt hurt just a tad by the end of the trip. Not much of a pad there, but easily enough remedied if I want to with an extra/different pad

This a great kayak for beginners I. The 215 to 225 range. Super stable and easy to manuveur for those off the beaten path jaunts but definitely a little slow. Durable as all get out and very light. I use it all over Florida from North to South and fresh to brackish. I can stand, sit and everything in between.Get out and get wet.

Thanks for making this video man. I'm 240lbs and ordered a tohoma which is from the same mold with a 275lb weight limit and I was nervous about purchasing it until I seen your video.
