I do this a little differently: I use this rescue when a paddler has either no upper body strength, or is incapacitated. It can also work for an unconscious casualty or someone with no lower body mobility. We have then drift keeping their head up and slip them into the capsized kayak feet first. We have then lie as far back on the rear deck as possible and with their body very close to the hull use their shoulder strap to roll them upright then pump support and tow. It works. I have only used this rescue in real life once but thanked God that we practiced the hell out of this in a pool and on the ocean on a course. / symposium. It's a good rescue and has variations.
