Could you tell me what size pvc pipes for the scupper holes? And how did you attach the screws to the truck bed liner. Would much appreciate it.

The pvc is 1/2 inch if I remember right. I used an end cap over the short length of pipe and used 3 small, stainless steel screws straight through the bedliner, down into each of the caps. No washers or anything. And it held up through years of abuse.

Than for the seat tip, can't wait to try it on my ocean yak.. Summer isn't too bad sitting in a pool of water but the cooler months up here in pa can be less than tolerable.

Thanks for the comment, Peter. A lot of kayaks seem to have this problem. My kayak (Emotion Spitfire 8) came with a hard plastic backrest that is on a hinge. It is held upright with a bungee on the back. I just added the pfd onto the backrest for comfort and to have a place to stow it at the same time. It's held in place with a tiny bungee to the original backrest. There are a couple of my kayak rigging videos that might show it, but nothing specifically dedicated to the backrest.

I am interested in the backrest. Do you have a video of that ? Your seat solution is fantastic. I have a Hobie AI and your invention would work beautifully. Everybody who own a Hobie AI are complaining about the wet seat problem...

hi, thank you for this seat cushion idea. I just found a handy one yesterday but my husband said no; this for my ibook, so I must keep on looking. Last May I bought me a Scooter Gemini, as now we are three on it and I have to do something for the one in the middle, so regards from Iceland (the country in the North- we relay have had a bad rainy and windy weather this summer. ;O) Sjo

Wish it did drain like that. Through rough water it literally fills up like a bathtub to the brim, and drains very slowly through the gap. I'm worried about stability, since it's also really narrow, so I don't want to raise the center of gravity that much. Challenge indeed. If I can find time to test good ways of sealing a core drill, I'm thinking about installing my own scupper holes with pvc. Risky though.

Ohh I am so jealous that you have scupper holes in your seat it is not even funny. My caster angler 12.5 perception kayak has absolutely no drainage from the seat area and foot well scuppers are poorly designed letting gallons of water inside. I have those plugged. I carry an arsenal of a bilge pump and a turkey juicer to bail water when I am out in the turbulent seas. I wish there was a way to DIY scupper holes but I am terrified to cut into the kayak. A hole is harder to patch up than no hole.

Yeah, the heavy rain and storms have messed things up for quite a while now. My last five outings were pretty much a bust. And that storm will probably ruin this coming weekend, too :( Sorry you didn't get better weather while you were in FL.

I looked up that kayak. I assume the water can drain between the gap in the two parts? You might need a raised seat. Something like the Vantage seat used on the Hobie pro angler. That would be a challenge to modify...

After showing this to a fellow angler, he went and used the side of a milk crate instead of bedliner. I thought it was clever. It worked and that material might prove easier to find. Thanks for the vote of confidence in my Macgyver skills, Cat!

Great Idea ! I have a 14 foot future beach fishing beast I use one of those square flotation seat thingies its comfy for all day ..but it doesnt keep my butt dry all day .the yak came with a seat back but no seat cushion ..my scupper holes are like yours right at the back of the molded seat area..any suggestion besides a bedliner ? I guess I could go to a junkyard and ask if they sell me some.I still say you could Macgyver a speed boat out of a shoestrings, paper clips, and some gum.

I envy your scupper holes. I have a Point 65N Apollo (the two piece kayak). No scupper holes at all. Glued in a seat out of two layers of yoga mat. Gets very wet. Not sure how comfortable I'll be come winter.

I have an Emotion Comet 11 sit in for winter fishing keeps me warmer and a Wilderness Systems Ride 115 I got cheap from a guy who bought it and then decided he did not like it. Btw my trip to Florida Panama city beach last week was a bust. 15" of rain and bad surf and winds kept is from fishing much. Only hooked a sea turtle in front leg but safely released it. Watch out for hurricane coming your way from Atlantic

This big hat was a leftover 'Cinco de Mayo' prop I found in my attic from years ago. I kinda like my 'mesh bush boonie hat' the best, though. Type those four words into Ebay and you'll find one.
