Currently planning a 30 day trip along parts of the Norwegian coast with a friend. I have little experience (haven't paddled for seven years) and I really enjoyed watching this video from your trip. I feel confident that our expedition is doable if we make good preparations and rational decisions along the way. Seeing the highlights from your expedition, was inspiring and made me more sure that what my friend and I are planning is doable. Thank you, I hope you are still being in nature and enjoying it. Best of luck on any current or future journeys for you and your friends.

Thank you so much for taking the time to watch our adventure. And yours sounds equally amazing! As you say, anything is possible, just prepare as best as you can, and most of all, choose the right people to go with ;) that makes all the difference. I wish you all the best! And yes I am still out adventuring all the time in our Big BC Backyard. It is an endless playground with a lifetime of explorations. I can't wait to hear stories of your adventures. Good luck and safe travels.

Did you brine your meat before dehhydrating it? I knew someone's gonna get sick!
Dam Good Trips
Dam Good Trips - 6 years ago
Haha! We dehydrated most of our own food and made jerky which kept well. Other than that we didn't have much meat, most of our protein came from nuts and legumes, and some supplemental fresh fish. Our mistake was that sausage/pepperoni that we kept past its prime, and that was stored in a somewhat cavalier fashion.

Wow, you guys really seem to have done a good job on this journey. Was surprised about the whole group dynamic thing that is mentioned. No leader? Really? just everyone getting along super well without anyone just being a little bossy from time to time? Not often to see that, must have been amazing :) Thanks for the video.

This is actually my favorite kayaking video on you tube. And that says alot. especially when I see a guy like Todd Switzer doing this same trip alone. But the reason I like this is because the fact that they were inexperienced, and just went for it, and the way the movie was made getting their opinions on the way they felt etc. It all just felt very real.

Just the fact that you replied meant alot to me. , and yes, you were my inspiration to make a trip to the San Juan islands in Washington State. I brought someone who is a chick friend and we fought the currents and the tides and camped out. it was a learning experience to say the least. and we are both glad we did it and love to talk about the ups and downs. we built a lifetime memory!

Myself and friend are just about to head off on a very mini adventure here in Ireland. The The "Green and Silver" route which will equate to about 380KM in racing kayaks over 5 days (http://www.iwai.ie/dublin/greenandsilver_record.html). You greater efforts have given me comfort that all will be OK ;0)

Beautiful.. I'm a retired military veteran, because of issues beyond my control finding gainful employment is difficult. But, now I intend on taking control back. My intention and plan is to guide kayak/canoe expositions on rivers and waterways in my area. There will be a focus on wounded vets to help heal and find their center again. This video didn't plant the seed for adventure but it is a source of inspiration... Good job

how often did you use the sails?  Were they worth the effort?
Christina Chowaniec
Christina Chowaniec - 9 years ago
+chris doner Yeah they were great. And you don't always need a full tailwind, they were often most useful crossing the tops of large channels as we could swivel them to take advantage of inflow and outflow winds. I would highly recommend. Ours were easy to throw up and pull down. I found that they don't necessarily make you go faster, their main advantage is energy saving, as they make each stroke easier and that adds up over the course of a long day and a long trip.
