Ocean Kayak Fishing Isn't Fun Anymore..

Mild profanity in this vid.. apologies 17:53 is really the beginning of the part you want to see, but this whole video has some decent content if you watch the whole thing but yea go ahead and click to the end and watch me flail through the waves. Do yourself a favor and watch this vid from a couple days later... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SXq4vEWsms Gopro: hero 3+ silver http://amzn.to/2iy8PyO Rod: Pompano Bay 7' Custom (http://www.pompanobayrods.com) Reel: Penn Clash 4k http://amzn.to/2hs2Gbr Fishfinder: http://amzn.to/2iwROJk Kayak: Hobie Revo 13.. kinda like this: http://amzn.to/2i8N5uk Magictail Tog jigs for the tog.. custom poured in NJ https://www.facebook.com/MagicTail-Bucktails-366916750153943/?fref=ts Video is a couple weeks old.... got to the beach with kayak in tow right after sunrise, drove around looking for 50lb stripers leaping out of the water but instead saw a whole lot of nothing.. drove around with Tenzin for a little while searching for any sign of life worth launching the kayaks for... found the fleet and I scouted it out from the beach.. It didnt look to promising.. Romo and Mike arrived.. we got out into the ocean a little before 9am... penetrated the fleet and found they were working a huge school of peanut bunker with very few fish on them, didn't see anyone hook up or any bait spraying, a couple hours passed, the fleet disappeared, started finding little pieces of life here and there, Romo got a nice Bluefish, there were some 24"-30" Bass working some peanuts in tight... it was basically dead all over out there and the only life we found was tight to the beach. Decided to try to find some structure and tog fish mid afternoon... caught a short.. then lost a drag puller (which I didn't have on video), before seeing the birds come back to life. Chased birds for the last hour of the day, they would pop up here and there and move quickly but I caught several bass and a bluefish on topwater before the day was over. Luckily the Bluefish I caught was able to destroy my waders while I was unhooking it. I missed a lot of blowups out there, the fish were doing their typical "hit the lure a bunch of times before actually eating it" but by days end I caught enough fish that I was semi satisfied... until it was time to go in. The waves/swell on this day were a little dicey and thanks to my poor timing I caught a nice wave which flipped my kayak, and lost just about all of my tackle. From the beginning of this day, after seeing dead water everywhere and then seeing the one fleet.. I wanted to bail on the striper persuit and drive another hour to try to get on some big tog, but I went against my better judgement and paddled the many miles and took a ton of casts all for some short bass and an average bluefish, destroyed my waders, and flipped my kayak.. but in the end, it was a beautiful november day with my friends on the water, even tho the fishing was tough it was still fun and I have no intentions to stop the ocean kayaking Luckily the beach bite lit up in the days preceding this which you saw in my last video.. I have a few days of footage to sift through but those videos will be coming up shortly. After editing the epic underwater blitz video I have been facing some serious lack of motivation to go through all these vids and put together less epic vids than that last one.. This here video took me a few days to piece together.. some kind of writers block.. editors block? Hopefully you enjoyed watching at least parts of this slow day of fishing and can laugh at my misfortune as I roll through the surf.. This was my first time "turtling" as they call it, and I should really be better prepared for this, every time, with leashes for all my rods and waterproof containers, but if you havent noticed by now, I am lazy and irresponsible and always put forth the minimum effort into maintaining my gear and well being... I dont think that will ever change. Luckily that box of plugs didnt have too many good lures in it... Romo also got some footage of me flipping which you can see on his channel here - https://www.youtube.com/user/romo7493 Rod: Pompano Bay 7' 3/8th-3/4oz x fast custom Kayak: Hobie Revo 13 Lures used: Tsunami talkin popper 7" all day. That was like such a rookie fail. Why was nothing tied down, and why were you not angling yourself at all and just letting the waves dominate you?!
#1: Ditch the water proof gear. Your IN the damned water. Just go with it and get wet!
#2: When you paddle in, just paddle straight in and ride the waves and lean back. I've ridden 5ft breakers in my sit on top kyak!
#3: Put a lid on that bucket! They only cost about $2.
#4. You might consider installing a long cloth wrap on the sides of your kayak. Before you come in, lay all of your poles and gear down in the cloth, wrap it up and secure it to the kayak. That way if your boat flips over it doesn't become a yard sale in the middle of the Ocean. It'll all stay together as one piece.
Thanks for the video, it does show the carelessness and what not to do so people can learn from it.
-takes no brain trash talk someone from hindsight, and it reflect badly on you ( if you didn't know)
2) Don't wear waders
3) Strap down your gear
4) Leave your cell in the car
5) Don't angle sideways paddling in or out.
6) Use your paddle to get in/out. You'll break a Mirage Drive blade on the bottom.
l2kayak
They will be watching in awe as the back of your wave pulls the yak along in the flowing current. Let alone if you have peddles and a paddle it is WAY easier to get in that spot the whole way to shore -depending on your conditions of course.
Hope you have lost less gear since this video.... "keep the seat side up".
Brought the baits out past the sand bar and made it back with 4ft. Swells.
You have to commit boy, damn!
What i just cant understand is....... You have a perfectly fine hatch right in between your legs. why did you not put your lures etc inside the hatch. ill never understand why you just left an unsecured bucket resting on the stern full of lures. you seen your friends struggle to get in, what makes your landing any different.
Hatches, they are your friend.
You're welcome
you got sloppy, arrogant, and lose.....so you ended up wet and a lot lighter on gear. Good job.
You might be doing that wrong...
Gets knocked out of the kayak. Stands up in 2 feet of water.
Get a clue, dude: if 1ft high waves are cresting and breaking (as they are at 18:04), you're only in a couple of feet of water. Waves usually break in water depth that is 1.3 times the wave height. Also, if you think you're in danger, it might be a good idea to get your paddle out and start paddling towards the shore, rather than talking about how sketchy things are getting.
he had the paddle, but didn't want to use it...!
suck it up...next time , think about using your paddle
- to bein crippled and stuck in this med-bed for the past 17yrs!
Havin' to exist vicariously really, REALLY sucks.
However, I do remain dry and unembarrassedly so...
...ouch! Ego, Freddy Kruger-ed.
If it ain't leashed
It's lost
Your dry hands will damage the protective protein coating that keeps a fish from infection.
you are lucky you were in shallow waters..
