+DCM Nick Hello Nick, thx for the comment / question. We did not actually gaff the shark. When i get some time i'm going to post the end of the video to show what happend. We were using the gaff to pull the treble hook out of the sharks pectoral fin. -JJ

+Alexis Garcia Both are awesome Kayaks! Outfitter is wider and bit more stable. The Oasis is longer and faster but has 2 less built in rod holders. The Oasis also has a bigger weight capacity. I would get the Oasis if fishing offshore since you can cover a lot more ground. -JJ

Nice video. Sorry to bug you but I had a quick question is that the outfitter and do you ever use it alone and if so how is it I have a nine year old son and plan on getting one but wanted to know if it is capable of fishing alone as well. Thank you.

couple questions
1.) are you on a man made reef or something. and what time of year was that. didnt know red snapper and fish other than spanish & ladyfish & pompano could be caught inshore
2.) What was your rig setup
3.) can an inflatable raft with trolling motor handle the currents out there
4.) what was that thing a tuna?

1. Yes we fish on "concrete pyramid" reefs and also a sunken tug boat wreck.
2. For bottom fishing, we are using a Carolina rig with egg weight, 40lb fluorocarbon leader and circle hook.
3. I would not go out in the Gulf on a raft with trolling motor except on maybe the best of days. The current and wind can change at any time.
4. Blackfin Tuna.

Great video guys. Look like Pro's. Was wondering if there is a Hobie club up there in Destin? I am from New Smyrna Beach/Oak hill area of Florida. I have a tandem hobie kayak. I have plenty of experience on the Lagoon down here fighting trout and redfish. Been down to the Keys before a few times, didn't catch anything like that though.

But would have no idea where to start up there in Destin. I am sure some months are better than others, out going tide better than incoming one, average surf to look for, off shore wind or on shore wind....any advise would be very much appreciated. We are planning a trip up to Pensacola in a month or two, would love to fish Destin for a day or two. Would like to be in a kayak friendly area.

The first bait dangling is a scaled sardine, locally known as "LY". Flopping in the kayak is a hard tail or "blue runner". The two identical baits pulled up are cigar minnows. There is also a shot of a hard tail being pulled up with some other trash fish. -JJ

Awesome vid man and awesome fishing. I was there two weeks ago. Highlight of the trip was a 35 lb cobia. My sister-in-law grabbed the camera to get me fighting it but she had it zoomed in too close and the video was useless.

Hi Snugglebear, thanks for the comment. The Cuda swallowed the a live hardtail and was hooked deep with two treble hooks / bleeding badly. We never actually gaffed the shark. We were trying to pull the hook out of its pectoral fin since it was our last rig. The shark ended up popping off and swam away to fight another day! -JJ
