I disliked this video, you kill more fish than you require, legally you must measure abalone before taking from the water, you use too much firewood, you dont wear a lifejacket or hat and my heart goes out to the ray you didnt know how to handle

Lee Merchant I’m sorry you feel that way , the extra fish were for my kids when going home, the abalone were measured in the water first and then measured again for the camera, the temperature got down to 4 degrees that night, I did have a hat and I rather wetsuit and fins to life jacket less than 50 m from shore , sorry you didn’t enjoy, but it is nice to know why you disliked, cheers — chris :)

Eagle rays are apparently quite good eating, for what it is worth. I'm told they are the same as shark. Never tried it though. Black UFO stingrays taste like arse, I have scientifically established that however.

yep mate :) they are called the "toll gate islands " we used to go out there as kids all the time, the fishing behind them was great, it has been declared a bird sanctuary now so is a no go and around it is marine sanctuary zone so no fishing :)

yeah no worries , personally I'm more concerned with things like the Adani plans for coal through the barrier reef or the gas fraking destroying artesian water for generations rather than the terrible environmental impacts of inspiring others to go enjoy nature , heaven forbid :) each to their own I guess

I have long held a fantasy of sailing the length of the Sea of Cortez in my Hobie Adventure Island kayak...geared up for it, but then the cartels got busy. 18 days of this. Would have favorable winds, if done before May....chubascos.

In Vic you cant fillet a Abalone on the beach, can't measure them out of the water, can't take them mid week, cant have a fire on the beach, can't camp on a foreshore, cant this, cant that.....
One by one our general freedoms just to get a meal are taken away.
It is disgusting in my view.

sounds tough in vic mate :( in NSW generally no cleaning of fish or abbs within 100m of ocean unless for immediate consumption, id measured abbs in water first , this was just for camera :) the tent was merely a shelter from the wind while I fished ALL night :) and I chose fire over hypothermia ( life threatening ) just trying to have a good time :) thanks heaps for watching !! really stoked you enjoyed it :)

Cheers mate:) those islands are called the "toll gates" I've been out there heaps as a kid but its been closed as a bird sanctuary so its a no go zone now :(
