Seriously I bought this kayak thinking out had dry storage and would be great to carry gear on the back well. The font storage not shown in this video isn't dry at all. I'd say out isn't even water resistant. If you don't want out wet doing out it in there flat out. Secondly the storage well behind the cockpit has no scupper holes so water gets in but can't get out. You'll literally be paddling around 5 gallons plus within three fittest 30 minutes of your launching this. The drain plug sucks. You have to force it in and out every time and its cheaply made like everything else on this P.O.S meaning its likely to break. The knee padding which is another alleged upgrade gives no more padding than 3 pieces of electrical tape layered together. Pelican if you read this comment please respond because I feel I deserve the ability to do something to be compensated for the money I wasted thinking out was going towards Ann actual functioning upgrade.

Pelican International I agree a higher end kayak would have been much preferred however, Dicks Sporting goods reviews seemed to all praise this kayak. After purchasing the kayak I tried to deal with their customer service in hopes of trading in towards a better kayak to no avail. Secondly the review I wrote on their website of this kayak of course will never be shown on their website. Yes the hatch was secure. It was secure as possible with this kayak meaning it was secure as having a plastic bowl upside sitting on top of it with a loose bungee cord holding it down. My main disappointment is that the reviews and the so called upgrades is why I chose this kayak. Unfortunately I was mislead.

Hi Craig,
Very sorry about your disappointment. Did you make sure the hatch door was securely locked? As with all kayaks, it is also highly recommended to use dry bags whenever transporting your valuables whether in the hatch or not. As for the "upgrades" you mentioned, the Maverick 100X is a fairly entry-level kayak, hence its basic (but yet very practical) specs. Maybe for your needs, a higher-end kayak would have better met your expectations.

is there a "spray skirt" that stays tight on this kayak?

With regards to the handles, they have been redesigned on the 2017 models. These models should be available in stores shortly.
