I've searched for this song now for 27 years. I had the cassette and played it years back. I'd forgotten who had sung it. Never a more poignant song by a superb poet and musician. I translated it to the one who'd swept me off my feet at the time and hoped that that person would not leave when I was old and cold and grey which is what I've become, holding an empty heart, all alone and tired. It was and now again is a prophetic song.

Ok now I see. I should pay more attention! I imagine his wistful melancholy and the space and freedom kayaking provide make good partners. Funnily enough this reminded me that I wrote a letter to Roger when he left Supertramp, thanking him for his contribution and great songs. Not long after I received a letter from Unicorn Studios, Nevada and wondered what it was. He took the time to reply and say thanks, handwritten too, which had a big impact on me as I was a star struck teenager, as that was 17 October 1986 (I'm looking at the postmark now!) What a gent.
