How are you turning on , off different modes on your GoPro when it’s attached to the back of your kayak? Remote? The app on your phone?

mark scott yep, usually use a GoPro remote. Otherwise for some scenarios I might just turn it on, get in the kayak, and let it run (let's say when I'm doing a rolling session)

i have a plastic kayak and want to use the suction cup, knowing that the plastic is not the smoothest of surfaces and may inhibit the suction. do you recon / or are aware of sticking a thick, glossy
, plastic sticker big enough for the suction mount would help? Thanks!

capulazza some plastic boats are smooth enough for suction mounts. I used to have a wilderness systems boat and that worked just fine. The problem with a sticker is that you'd depend on how well the sticker would adhere to your kayak. If that's on super tight, you should be ok.

Thanks. You answered a lot of my question I couldn't find in other videos. Im starting my own kayak, bushcraft, camping channel and have shot a lot of footage. I hate it all! I am having to learn about shooting angles that work for me and ones that don't. I cant afford to buy stuff that doesn't work. I don't believe in, "reinventing the wheel" so, I learn a lot from you sharing. Thanks again.

where do you suggest mounting the Go Pro? I am trying to figure out a place on the foredeck that I can reach, but I am concerned about damage when I assist in rescues and drag kayaks onto my deck.

That's a tough one. For me I opted to go for mounting it forward on the bow, and using a remote. That way it's not in the way for rescues. However, I don't think there's a right or wrong. Play with a couple of spots and see what works for you.

Troy Lee I have not. Waterproof ones are coming out now, my friend Tomasz has been using a small waterproof one on his helmet for stabilized video. I have not yet used one.

Hi Luke, thanks for the info. I opted for an Olympus Tough - more for stills but also for short videos - and have been trying to figure out a mounting system. How do these attache to the camera? The Olympus has a standard threaded camera mount -- will these work, or is there an adapter available? Thanks - hope to see you at the pool or on the water this winter. -Jonathan

Perfect! I tried a cheap knock-off that I picked up at West Marine (BoomSUP by Scosche), but the suction cup is really wussy. That will be going back in exchange for the RAM system.

JLT1003 excellent! Absolutely, if you look at the description above, you'll see the ram suction cup mount, and then below it a 1inch ball with plate adapter - that will have a 1/4 thread screw with a 1inch ball that can fit into the mount.

if you put adhesive mount on the kayak will it make it unstick,since water will get on it or,what.

The GoPro sticky mounts work very well at staying on. Just always make sure to tether it down just in case it ever comes off.

Depends on the situation. Usually yes. However, they use quite a bit of battery when connected to the remote. So sometimes I just let them run manually until I get out next or until the battery runs out.

those adhesive mount wont stick to kayaks. ive tried several times.

It depends on the finish of your kayak. If it's a nice sleek finish they will stay on just fine (fiberglass, smooth finish plastic, etc). If the surface is porous then it will have a harder time staying on.

Hi...great video (have shared) wondering if you have used the smaller Ram suction mount in surf and how did it peform punching out through waves...I just picked one up and it seems really good mind you I ALWAYS leash my camera...thanks in advance!

Thanks! I have used it in small surf, I haven't tried it in the surf I've seen in your videos. However, it's been hit time and time again by paddles or other people, so I'm guessing the surf will be just fine. Make sure to wet the rubber right before putting it on, it'll help stay on. Also, look for a nice flat area, it'll stay on better than some of the more curved spots. I've used mine for more than 2 years and it has never come off yet...
