#Kathy Oslosky True, I was in a situation, the first time i was kayaking on a river, I've driven into a tree on the river, i didn't know what to do. In this situation you can't roll, without a helmet you vould die.. Now I do kayaking for 3 3/4 years and it makes a lot of fun. @Abitaskew Dataflow

You can get a lot better performance in whitewater on Sit On Tops if you have leg straps. They allow you to move the kayak with your lower body and if you flip you straiten your legs and the straps slide right off.

I just saw these in another vidio and wondered about the issue of having them when flipped over, this answered my question. Going to add them to my yak because I love the local river during the rainy seasons but it doesn't love sit on tops back lol

The biggest danger on any river is ENTANGLEMENT. At approx. 2:16 this guy goes right next to and over some fresh dead fall. Very, very dangerous. And wear a helmet. Other than that it looked like they were having fun. Drowning is never any fun.

The general idea of a 'crossover' pretty much always meets that description. Two or three dedicated boats/cars/whatever will always be better at their respective niche than a hybrid that tries to do all at once. That having been said, I find the coupe to be perfectly acceptable for whitewater. I've taken it on several class III rivers and had a blast, and then I took it on a kayak camping trip with a HUGE drybag of gear, and kept up with the canoes just fine.

The coupe is actually pretty poor in whitewater (technical whitewater especially). It will work, just not very safely. I would strongly recommend finding a local paddling club and picking up a used WW boat and a used rec/touring boat. Crossover boats generally suck in both areas they try to straddle and if you buy used you can often get two for the price of one anyway. As for SOT WW boats, the Do-It-Now looks downright amazing and in a class by itself.

Nice, I'll have to look into that, thanks for the info! I've got a sit-inside kayak for whitewater but really enjoy the nonchalant nature of the sit-on-top, its very easy and safe for casual rides down the river.

They actually make some sit-on-tops that are meant for whitewater, believe it or not. The ones I know of are the Dagger Torrent, the Fluid Do-It-Now and the Liquid Logic Coupe. I have the coupe and it's a great all-around boat. Tracks well on flat water, is very stable on whitewater (up to class III, never tried IV), and it's got a nice open cargo area for camping. A great all-around boat.

Thanks for watching! If you are a beginner I would suggest a sit-on-top kayak like the ones used in this video. They are cheap, easy to to paddle and very safe. However, they are not ideal for white-water as shown in this video. Its easy to get thrown off the boat into white water. Therefore, when you become comfortable with a sit-on-top kayak, you can upgrade to a sit-inside boat, learn to roll it, and then hit some huge rapids! I will get back to you on the name of the song.
