I'm interested in looking at this yak, but so far, haven't found a dealer in my area that actually has one or stocks them.(I've check two Academy Sports stores). They are all eager to order one for me but, I won't do that until I inspect one in person. How do I find a dealer that carries this one and the Strike 120x? Is there a list or something?

Wow, have a strike 100 but am very interested in this now! Zoffinger (Marty) video of iCast brought me here :) May just have to give this a shot!

I hate to be the buzz kill, but this boat spins about as much as the tilt-o-whirl with just a slight breeze blowing. I wish all the sponsored reviews were honest before I purchased mine. If you're not paddling and just fishing, this kayak moves or spins every which way it wants. I was never going to use mine again until I added a rudder (which I did.) The stability is great, but so many mods needed to make it a reliable everyday fishing kayak. At this point, with all the mods, I should have waited for some honest reviews before I purchased mine. Sorry Pelican International for sounding so negative , but please in the future, make it easier for the installation of a rudder or at least a skeg. And please don't put the handles on the side sticking up so high that you bust your knuckles on them when paddling hard! It is a kayak with so much potential, but needs just a few practical changes. I still love my other pelican kayaks though!

Thanks for the reply. I have not experienced any spinning with mine? I did make outriggers for mine, I'm not as agile as most are. It has been a great confidence builder. I keep an eye out for your videos on your Catch 120 mods and outings. Thanks again!

I was talking about the Catch 120. I haven't done a video on the modifications I made to the kayak yet, but hope to soon. At this time I am very pleased with my Catch 120. I installed a rudder on it. My biggest complaint in my original comment was that Pelican didn't design it with any thought given to adding a future rudder or skeg. I love the room on board and the stability. I also love how light the kayak is which makes it paddle easily. I had to use some ingenuity to get the rudder installed, which I think should be a consideration for any kayak design. The other obvious problem I had with it in my original comment was the handles on the side--they stick up too far and I would smash my knuckles on them when I was paddling hard. I have since removed them and added small straps as handles instead. I now use this kayak on most of my fresh water fishing trips. I hope this helps clarify.

Laser Maker, are you talking about the Icon 120 or the Catch 120? I saw your comments, having purchased a new Catch 120 and very happy with it, was curious. I'm also always looking to see what others are doing with their Catch 120. I checked your channel, I only found the Icon 120?

Thanks for your polite and kind reply. This is an update to my first comment ( which may have sounded harsh.) I took mine out this past Saturday. I have to admit that it was a much more enjoyable fishing trip. First, with the rudder I added, it didn't want to spin around on me at all. I realized on this trip how easy the kayak paddles. The rudder made it so much better to fish and drift with--I stayed on course even in wind. I also took the handles on the side off, which stick up too high (in my opinion) and added handles made with flat braided nylon cord. There was no more hitting my hands and paddles on the handles. I know you don't pay people to review your products, but I believe you sponsor people who use your products and they endorse them in return. I'm not an expert kayak fisherman and I noticed it's propensity to spin out in a breeze right off the bat. That's all I was commenting on. As far as the modifications: I know this kayak has a great price point and you can only do so much for that price. I just wish it would have been designed (as a future Add-On) so that a rudder or skeg could be added easily because it took a lot of ingenuity for me and expense to make the rudder work. As of now, I can honestly tell you that after those mods I really enjoyed my time on the water with my Catch and will be using it over my other kayaks--Tarpon 120 included.

Hi Laser, thanks for the comment. We haven't really come across this type of feedback in the past. To our great delight, the reviews have been outstanding on The Catch 120. We don't pay for reviews on the kayak. Esteemed people like Robert Field of YakFish TV and Italo Labignan of Canadian Sportfishing on the World Fishing Channel have had strong feedback on this yak. As for the amount of items you want to add to it, we would only reply with the fact that the price tag is much lower than those that it can stack up with, allowing you to outfit it and stay on budget.

Do they have the rear hatch or not? The Lava has a rear hatch in the video but the Olive doesn't. Either way at a $1000 less than a comparable Jackson and about half of a Wildy I think I am going with the Catch.
Pelican International
Pelican International - 8 years ago
+Michael Bandeko Hi Michael. There is no rear hatch. This video was shot VERY early in the kayak's development, and so it was a prototype. We're looking at this option for down the road, however.

+Pelican Sport okay thank you :) I love pelican they are my favorite kayak distributor, I will be buying the catch 120 from academysports very soon since you recommended them as a dealer
Pelican International
Pelican International - 8 years ago
+TeZUnity Pelican uses thermoforming technology, which allows us to use high molecular weight polyethylene, whereas many of our competitors use low or medium density polyethylene. Simply put, this process, which begins with the extrusion of two sheets of plastic, fuses them into one piece. For sit-on-top kayaks, it's the only process that allows for the insertion of flotation blocks for added buoyancy. But once the two pieces are fused into once piece, the seam of the boat is actually one of the strongest points of the boat. Overall, our boats yield a more impact resistant watercraft than many competitors.
TeZUnity
TeZUnity - 8 years ago
Cool, Thanks :) and one last question, someone said in a different video their concern whether this kayak was made in 1 piece or 2 pieces? like top and bottom, is it one or 2?
Pelican International
Pelican International - 8 years ago
All Catch 120s are created the same at the moment, unless someone has modified it on their own. As far as the paddle is concerned, that depends on your size and paddle preferences.
TeZUnity
TeZUnity - 8 years ago
+Pelican Sport Thanks! I will be buying it soon, another question what paddle size do you recommend for the catch 120, and what price range would you say a decent paddle should cost? P.S. I've seen some catch 120's with a second storage compartment in the back, is that standard or something different?
Pelican International
Pelican International - 8 years ago
+TeZUnity Hi there, every retailer is different, in terms of when they are offering the kayak. Some of the southern dealers have been offering it since early February. You might be able to purchase it online at Academy Sports' website. Thanks so much for the interest and let us know what happens.

Pelican International
Pelican International - 8 years ago
+Chad Shephard Hi Chad, based on the features, the comments from retailers and the incredible consumer anticipation and buzz, the price seems to be just right. This kayak was designed from scratch, and isn't based on any of our other models, hence the higher price tag. The 34-inch wide flat platform, the stable tunnel hull, the exciting new colours, the new dual position seating system, etc... it seems to scratch a longtime itch for many.

Great looking kayak. Having worked in rotomolding industry I will say the RamX proprietary TST process is superior in form and function. It truly is a lighter and stiffer hull than many other competitors. It may look too lightweight to be durable but appearances are deceiving. Spoke with several rental companies who rent out Pelicans and Elies. They said they have never had a hull leak. Check out their durability test videos. They put these kayaks through extensive torture tests to ensure they meet the needs of the consumer. Coming from a channel with Hobie's and other expensive kayaks I am telling you I would trust a Pelican or Elie hull in durability over even many expensive Hobie hulls. I will likely be buying a Catch 120. Love the vibrant colors too.

Hi Tom, we are so sorry to hear about your issue and we are glad to hear that you are okay. This is certainly not a common occurrence with this popular kayak. Please do call customer service at 18886696960 asap for support with your model. Since we produce the most plastic based kayaks in the world, we also have more models out there than anyone else, and so unfortunately you encountered a very rare defect.

Great boat it only took 30 minutes to sink, thank goodness I didn't going spring walleye fishing like I planned I be dead now. The third drain hole were the two shells come together there is a1/2 inch gap. This is so noticeable to anyone one who was familiar with the boat , but it was shipped anyway, 1000 dollars and they don't even inspect you boats. I am 70 years old this is most dangerous boat, worst quality kayak ever
