a lot of mumbo jumbo - how can anyone make sense of what is being said? - how's about describing simply: keep your body as close to the kayak; center of gravity is important. The paddle is an obstruction; move it through the water as quickly as possible, with the least resistance. most importantly, the hips, back, and stomach are pulling the weight of the kayak back, beneath/underneath you, as you get upright quickly, and forcefully. practice with a partner to perfection.

definitely...for sure easier with no offset but as long as that 2nd blade following through has leverage on the water then you will be successful

6Tonyb and anyone else who is mad enough to get hooked on the idea of getting this roll...Well, I've finally managed to pull it off and here are a couple of observations: I've found that the first phase is pretty slow as you rotate under the deck and get ready to sweep forward. Once clear of the deck, I've had to really speed the sweep up to get enough leverage for a downward pry and strong hip snap once I get perpendicular to the boat. If you've got good hang time, you can slow everything down and practice sweeping around and getting your hip snap really popping as you pry down. Once all the muscle memory is in place, it comes together. All that being said, I seem to be prying down more than it shows in the vid and perhaps things will get more efficient with time and practice.

Jon S., I have been having the same issue you describe. At1:37 I note the kayak is still topside down but his body has begun to make the transition from being parallel to the deck to perpendicular to it. He is looking towards the left paddle face and I think this facilitates that movement. Now with the left paddle face breaking the surface it looks to me like he applies downward pressure on the paddle to support the hip snap. Or perhaps it's just forward momentum because he is now (1:38) perpendicular to the kayak and is just finishing the stroke to finish at his feet.

Well, I've trained my brain to do the sweep, but I can't feel the point where I'd engage my right hip to swing my boat up, which is so obvious with a sweep roll. So, I get to the point where I break the surface, only to have my boat roll back over. I paddle an NDK Romany, which rolls very easily with C to C or sweep. Any pointers?
