I've canoed for 18 years and kayaked for 12, an average of 70 trips annually. I've always used straight bar car top carriers. I also, always secure my canoe and kayaks upside down. This provides better bow and stern security and prevents hog backing aka oil canning the under side / performance side of the boats. Hog backing aka oil canning breaks a boat and reduces resale value from 60% to less than 30%.

In my opinion it would but much more busy to spend that extra $500 on an our kayak than to have to go through all that trouble of first buying a kayak then having a second purchase just to use it

Add a couple of twists into the strap, in any area where the strap is not in contact with the boat. This helps break-up the vortex-shedding that leads to that annoying hum.
