The only thing missing from your kayak is a portable VHF radio. In all my travels up and down the Intercoastal Waterway almost every trip involves a kayak lost with its captain unfortunately in many occasions the captain is found dead or not found at all you need to have some way of getting help and a cell phone will not cut it

you have power, now add a little more and build a drop in trolling motor. it could be steered either by foot controls or by the paddle. the foot controls would allow hands free control. this would be helpful at end of day or to assist if you have to tow someone home. you already have the mount already there so it would be helpful to someone. very nice rig!

In my opinion, pelican makes some of the worst kayaks I've ever used. Terrible quality.

I like that you've customized your yak, but I think you've drilled into it wayy too much... you compromise the hull with every new mount/screw/hole that you add. Everything leaks eventually, so I wouldn't want to risk any leaks and unrepairable damage to the yak for some convenience mods that aren't mandatory, just my 2 cents.

Otherwise, great video, best of luck to ya.

Nice Kayak. Turn the Scotty Rodholder mount around. The correct position is when the rodholder does not completely come out of the mount when facing forward. It should be mounted so that it only comes completely out when turned towards you. Even more important in a small space where it could fall off overboard. I have a buddy who runs a sea kayak guide service on Lake MI. Your setup is well thought out and functional. Enjoy!

Really? The plant life and mangroves at the waters edge are absolutely still and it looks like you doing a good 4mph or more with a big wake comming off your kayak. I'm not trying to come off as a non believer and I really enjoyed this video but if it was just current wouldnt it just flow with no wake? I have a kayak with a motor and that wake looks just like my kayaks wake running my motor. Anyway once again nice video with original DIY idea's.

you can just use a stringer but if you catch a lot of fish, you need to pull them up when you move because they cause a lot of drag. in the summer in Texas, i use a fish bag which is basically just a insulated PVC bag that you put the fish and ice in. i gut the fish before putting em in the bag. #catchandrelease also works great too. :-)

Marty! These are exciting times. This video is the one that convinced me that a Kayak is what I needed instead of a boat. I was stationed in Germany and watched this video and dreamed of all the fish I would catch from my kayak that I would buy when I got home. This weekend I got it! I got the Enforcer 120X from Pelican. Today I put an anchor trolley on it, and Saturday I am taking her on her maiden voyage. I will let you know how it goes. I think it's too hot in Georgia to catch any fish, but in my mind, that's why a kayak is better. If the fish aren't biting, I can just go exploring. Tight lines buddy, and thanks again for the inspiration. Hopefully some day soon I can make it down to Florida and do some Mangrove trails "Marty Style". Cheers!

Wow, impressive. I love all the detail you have put into this. I just recently purchased an entry level kayak for myself, from a company called Lifetime. I bought it because of its size and ability to handle my weight (240), and turns out that it is a fishing kayak, which is not what I was originally after, but that is what I pulled the trigger on. Turns out it has reignited my need to want to fish. Your video kept me interested all the way through. Great job on this.

I kayak in Long Island Sound sometimes in fairly rough water in a similar sized Kayak. You just have to pay attention to the weather and wind and use good common sense safety practices.

Excellent video. I own a hobie PA 14. It's my first yak. I love it but I use it on the Shanandoa river in shallow water. It's really way too much yak for shallow, rocky rivers so I need to buy another smaller "shallow river" yak. this looks like an excellent choice for that. Do you think it's a good choice? I hate hitting rocks with my awesome hobie.

The Catch 120 looks like it has a nicer seat than the Strike 120x and it's 4" wider so it should be more stable.
Just remember the Catch 120 might be a little slower.

The Enforcer 120x looks like another one to look at. It looks just like my Elie but with a different seat and no replaceable keel piece.

I normally fish small rivers and occasionally hit some larger lakes, would this be a better choice than the catch 12'? I use a 10' sit-in kayak now and want a little more room and buoyancy.

Sometimes the water can be pretty low in spots and I am thinking the flat bottom of the catch could help out in those instances.

First of all great videos. you blow my mind with the detail and thoughts that go into your kayaks. so my question is im having troubles finding a kayak. i really really want one with the pedal system for propulsion. Any help? i don't wanna spend the 2.5k on that hobie one. i first need to get a starter one to make mine. i keep thinking that is just way to big of investment at the time. but like you say just need one that gets me out to the water catching fish. also im a wounded warrior from our armed forces. i had a stroke so my left arm doesn't really work all that great but i can use my left leg decently not perfect but i bet good enough to get around. thats why im looking for that pedal option. thanks if you answer or not. and keep living the dream my friend.

It's kind of funny to see a power pole on a 500$ kayak. I think any sort of new kayak you ride is going to have some of your subscribers upset, you've rode around in a plastic bucket for as long as I can remember :) I don't think you fish anything but protected waters, and as long as that's what you're advocating these for, I don't care.

That being said - I would not take one of these kayaks into unprotected waters. Any sort of flat bottom hull like that is going to have a hell of a time if things get rough. Like you say you don't fish in rough water but I don't think anyone plans on things getting rough, sometimes the unexpected happens.

TIP: 9:06 make some plugs for any holes you made in your kayak. I made four 3/4 inch holes for multiple mounts and setting up rod holders or shade etc.
Think about this...
Four 3/4" holes adds up to one 3" hole... From experience... In rough water the kayak takes on a L-O-T of water.

PLUG THEM WHEN NOT IN USE!
