15May2018. Thanks for video. I own (2) Hobie PA14s, An have rigged it as much as I can n even went to a Torqeedo 403 aft mounted trolling motor. It has saved us 3x when weather got us caught an we connected our Hobies n used the motor to aid in going against the wind. We are 65 plus n love fishing out of them, but our balance is not like it was a few yrs ago.

I want to mount a set of wheels so we can bypass the boat launch altogether n just roll our yaks to water n go. Having my motor adds a issue but think I can overcome that as I invent things most of my life. Using those wheel Dolly's that Hobie sells are a joke, don't buy them like I did, but I have them to mount my way now. Only thing I dislike, is getting wet on cool mornings n evenings. Some boaters think it's funny to endanger kayak ers so be very alert to those jack asses. Their day will come. We use the standup bars every time n you can't stand up without them.

I'm with you on the standing. I fish the creeks and flats around Jax and the current is strong. I'd much rather have the speed than be able to stand.

I watched several guys in Michigan last year with kayaks in Lake Huron and also some inland water. I noticed that the smaller kayaks are nothing more than an accident waiting to happen. Your video is great and if I was going to fish from a kayak rather than my yacht I'd call you up! Thanks a million..tight lines!

just bought one its unbelievable stable you can throw a cast net from it. i walk off the dock on it and then sit down.and the seat is to die for!!

1st question to ask yourself: Where will you store the boat? 2nd question: How will you transport it?

If you can't answer those effectively, you need to rent :)

Man thanks a lot for the advise. I'm in the market for a new fishing kayak and your advise helps a bunch.
I'm set on a vibe Sea Ghost 130 because it's under a grand, comes with lots of extra like the track, it's 13 feet long and that sounds perfect for the area I'm fishing NY Bay, Newark Bay and Jamaica Bay.

Hello y'all, i am in love with fishing, definitely can afford a nice boat meaning a 40 plus foot but I don't feel like the hassle and upkeep I am thinking about getting a heritage angler 10 ft kayak will this be able to handle an open lake with waves around 2 feet any answers would be nice. Thanks

Glad you found the sport. I would highly recommend going with a bigger yak for the open water. If paddling, shoot for at least 13ft. You will be thanking yourself when you hit the wind and the chop lol! Tight lines!

No help to me, I already know just what kayak suits me. A Jonboat. LMAO Seriously, if you like a kayak, more power to you, just not for me. For me a Jonboat is so very much more versatile, and useful.

you left out the "how much do you weigh?" and "how much capacity does the kayak you like carry?" I weigh 300 #s which eliminated about half of the kayaks on the market for me right there. Also, how much does the kayak weigh. Not everyone can handle a Hobie PA those suckers are heavy.

I had the assend 12 from Bass Pro. It was a sit in. I did not like it. Wasn't stable, heavy and since it was a sit in you were limited on movement. I also barely stood and it flipped me

ive had one. it tracked well, paddled ok, i had the blue fs12. i will say it is heavy. if you dont have a cart get one for sure. the scotty that comes with the boat gets in the way a bit. prior to last year they had hatch leak problems, i never had that issue. its super stable, never flipped stood up and cast without an issue. all in all for 600$ It was a great boat. i sold that one last year, im in the market for the fs128t in november and ive heard great things about that one.

Hobies are dangerous offshore. If you go offshore the waves will likely be bigger so you want a long yak that's easy to right after a capsize. You want a low center of gravity in big seas and most fishing kayaks have you sitting too high.

I just watched a TV show on itunes called Pacific Warriors. Some used Hobies on that show and they worked great. I can't afford a Hobie so I have no first hand experience with them.

didn't see this until after I bought mine but I went with a used tarpon 160. spent under a grand and came with fishfinder, live well, anchor, rudder, and a carbon fiber paddle!

I wish saw this video before I went through 3 of them. lol. I got them from Dicks and they have a great return policy. I like the Field and Stream, then went to Perception 13.5t 3 seats, but it was like a bus but it was very stable and a lot of room. I have a Ocean Kayak 12 tandem. It is for 2.5 people the .5 is for a kid. Now you got me thinging again... lol. I do both light fishing and recreation. Inshore and bays.

I want something small durable an I only put a rod a tackle box a net and some snacks I NEED MY SNACKS I use a four foot rod a five inch tackle box my net is usually a butterfly net from dollar tree so I hate spending a lot of money anything under three with two zeros and I'm good what should I get

I took my Lure 13.5 out of Chicken Bone (Sat) for the first time in Gulf with it and it did fine even when the wind kicked up to about 10knt. I kept up with my friends Native.... for a bit.. lost him while I was re-rigging after I lost my king rig..... Make sure you spring for the Rudder Kit ;)

Don't forget about inflatables. I used to fish out of a hard kayak. I fish out of a Seaeagle Fastrack now. It's fast and stable, and I can take it anywhere. The #1 reason I started kayak fishing, was to avoid the 50 bass boats at the boat ramp every morning. I don't see why anyone would trailer a kayak. Great video by the way.

I bought a feelfree 13.5 lure. 34 inch deck sit on top and yes it is made for sight fishing. I never see anyone else using these kayaks.
question do you know why very few people use the feelfree models?

How does the revo compare to a slayer propel 13? Besides the forward reverse.

+Michael Morgan Well, the Slayer is a good yak but not my first choice because of the drive system. It is super stable but in shallow water or rough reentry in the surf the drive is tricky. The Revo is like riding on a ski to me. I am partial to the Outback. When your peddling it is way less exhausting speed in not a big deal to me. They will both go plenty fast in my opinion.

I noticed you've used the propel, would you recommend it over the revo for offshore use? Or does the revos hull speed make it a better option. I've only had paddle kayaks and speed is pretty important to me considering how exhausting it can get out there. Deck space and storage are great to have though so if the revo is only marginally quicker I should probably go with the native?

+Michael Morgan The Revo is a lot more narrow kayak. It is a sleeker design for cutting through wind and chop. The Slayer is a much more wider kayak with more storage.
