Yea I just bought one of these yesterday, and am shocked and appalled at the absolutely rediculous prices of the trolling motor option and pedal option, not worth even half of what they are asking, gonna have to make my own trolling motor setup

Can't help but feel the boat looks tippy. The guy operating the boat seems to have to stabilize himself a bit, like when he stands up, his platform seems side-to-side-ish tippy. Also, the peddle design seems to force this guy to hyper-extend his knees while operating it. Is this because the guy's too short, or because they tried to create more front deck area. Anyway, I'm not sure this design would steer me away from other options out there.

The ride 115 was one of the most versatile kayaks on the water with a huge front hatch for storage of extra poles and camping gear, a nice rear storage area and enough room to lay down. It handled well on the rivers and tracked like a dream for it's size. It was light weight with side handles that made moving it by yourself easy. So why not save money and upgrade the mold for the pedal drive!? I purchased the Radar 115 because I was informed the Ride 115 was no longer going to be available as a fishing kayak. The front storage hatch is useless. It's too small to do anything with. The mid hatch is also too small to be useful for storage and it leaks so any extra gear will have to be stored in a dry bag. Both front and rear carry handles can hardly support the weight of the kayak and came apart the first time I used them. The lack of side carry handles make it near impossible to carry by yourself. It does not seem to paddle as easy as the Ride but maybe that's because of it's weight. It's molded to tight where the seat goes making it a pain to get the seat into place. The only thing I liked about this kayak are the ram mounts and the seat. I'm selling this thing and trying to find another Ride 115 max angler. Sorry for the bad review. This video was nice though.

Pescador Pilot 12?

Wilderness Systems Radar 115 - $1349 + $1100 =$2449 (pedal installed, motor capable, 94 lbs)
Wilderness Systems Radar 135 - $1499 + $1100 = $2599 (pedal installed, motor capable, 101 lbs)
Pescador Pilot 12 v2 - $1799 (pedal only, 85 lbs)

They worked out the kinks from the first Pilot. It's tough to rationalize spending $650 - $800 more for a kayak that has similar features. I've used both of them. If money were not an object, Radar 135. On more of a budget, Pilot all day.

I have a radar 135; it's very stable and and turns very well.

Now I'm only 5'9" 160lbs and the kayak is heavy; over 100 lbs with a rudder installed. Its an absolute mega PIA to load and unload on my kayak rack on my truck by myself. The plastic where you can install flush rod holders is thin and flexes very easy by hand. The plastic also flexes easily when you stand up under your feet. Speed hmm I guess thats up to the person but getting 3 mph requires me to paddle with a hard effort.

Needless to say I'm not happy with it really besides stability. Also the pedal drive uses I tiny prop and 6:1 gear ratio. I haven't tired it yet but I can see some vigorous pedalling to get speed.

I not sure my experience will get any better over time as I'm almost ready to cut my loses and sell. Just the weight alone has me dreading taking it out by myself. I load 100lbs bucket of pool shock into my truck no problem but a 100lb kayak is more than I want to deal with.

so the radar 115 cost around $1350.00 without the pedal drive? and the pedal drive cost around $1100.00?

so to get the pedal package, the kayak cost at $2450.00?

Good point, troll. Anyone that uses "epic" in their everyday language is a moron. "Brah, so epic, brah!" "Check out my epic PDL, Brah!" "I'm dumb and like to spend more money on stuff because it's epic, Brah!" Hobie boats are tubs and Old Town is overpriced and heavy with no advantage of using a motor drive. That's epic, BRAH!
NoneForYou
NoneForYou - 6 years ago
Let's at least compare apples to apples. 13 foot boats vs 13 foot boats and 12 vs 12.

Old Town PDL - $2800 (pedal only, 117 lbs)
Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 14 - $3599 (pedal only, 120 lbs)
Wilderness Systems Radar 135 - $1499 + $1100 = $2599 (pedal installed, motor capable, 101 lbs)

Hobie Mirage Pro Angler 12 - $3299 (pedal only, 105 lbs)
Wilderness Systems Radar 115 - $1349 + $1100 =$2449 (pedal installed, motor capable, 94 lbs)
Pescador Pilot 12 v2 - $1799 (pedal only, 85 lbs)

The Radar is far better than you're willing to admit. Either you're getting paid to troll or just haven't done your research. Either way, facts are facts.

If a fish finder is added to the flex pod, it looks like the pedal drive will contact it when flipped up.
Scuffed ThumbZ Fishing
Scuffed ThumbZ Fishing - 7 years ago
Brian Richard you wouldn't have your fishfinder on top of the flex pod if you have the pedal drive you wouldn't be able to see it anyway. You put the transducer the battery and extra cable in the flex pod and run the actual head unit onto the gear tracks on the side.

The other pedal kayaks have a 10 to 1 gear ratio but this one is only 6/1. How does that affect the speed? Are the props a different size or pitch?
Phoenix

R H honestly, i think ots more of a slow, bank working type thing rather than paddling casting you you just cast and.move at the same time.
Chris Ellis

R H I have noticed the same thing. The prop for the helix drive is tiny and has very little surface area. Add that to the 6:1 ratio I see a good effort needed to get up to speed.

Great design but I wish they would have taken full advantage of the front and back of the boat by designing the forward and aft dry storage much like the Coosa HD by Jackson kayak. I think the area directly behind the seat is a waste of useable space even though you can store the seat there. If they would have brought the space for the crate or blackpack directly behind the seat then they would've had plenty of room for a dry storage compartment at the rear of the boat. You really need those internal dry storage areas for longer overnight trips in order to carry the gear that you will need, and to keep the cockpit area clutter free. It's those kinds of details that could've made this the best fishing kayak on the market. I do like that they incorporated the raised rectangular dry storage area directly in front of the seat. You could use it for dry storage, tackle storage, or put 1 of those cooler inserts in and use it as a cooler. That way u would have direct access to ur drinks & food

Coingrats on the engineering that went into the Radar. Amazing boat, just not for me. (10 must be my lucky number: I got my 10ft WS Tarpon 100 in 2010 and wouldn't trade it for anything. As much as I am impressed with the Radar's added features, I am not a fan of the added weight. Same is true for most kayaks these days.)
