I kayaked for 6hrs without that plug in, it didn't sink because it was gentle water.
Her bf was a risk taker (drinking, no life jacket, wrong kayak for the journey, damaged equipment, bad weather forecast) and she didn't like him and wanted to end the relationship, an accident happened due to their poor planning and because she was scared and angry she believed she didn't do enough to help. But she couldn't have saved him, it was dangerous water (cold and strong) and she would have put herself in danger if she had tried. He would have drowned her because he was stronger than her, you don't try to save people in those situations, it's a sad truth.
