Have you got a URL for specifications on this production kayak?
It doesn't look like 9 mph to me. Maybe getting a "boost" from favorable current.

FYI we got one hooked up with a GPS and recorded 11.1 kph, also set it up against a sea kayak and another pedal kayak both with favorable results. Other recent clips now show that it can be used for fishing, and very stable: Just type into YouTube Wavewalker Watercycle and then click on the publisher Tony Scott to see the other clips

It would float in 8ins but you wouldn't be using the pedals and prop. They do seem to draw less water than the hobbie and using in an open lake with high winds is a dream with the prop setup. Pretty heavy currents can be not so good. Mild to medium is ok though. I'd check additional extras, theres not a lot with the Mariner. At least not on the website.

I looked at those too, how shallow do you think you could float it? I have a creek on my property that I can launch into, but it probably only has 8 inches of depth maybe a little less.

Thanks for that..I did purchase the Native Mariner Propel and its just great. Easy to pedal and well I just love it!! It has been great fishing in it and did I say i love it? Caught a couple of bream yesterday and well i just love it!

I have contacted the WaveWalker mob and they said they don't have a pedal powered model at least in Australia they dont. The website also only shows electric powered kayaks and the Wave Walker is a twin hull design. What ever is in this video isn't a Wave Walker, at least from the web site its not.

You don't need to prove anything but unless you offer any to substantiate your claim, not many will believe you. Gordie never did more than 6-1/2 nauts whenever I raced against him in NorCal. Mike is right to ask for the proof.

You are definately moving at a good speed when there is a wake behind the boat and spray at the bow sides. It is fast. What would the carrying capacity be? And do you think it would be any good to set up for fishing?

Not bad. My pedal kayak's been clocked at 16kph by GPS in pedal mode with no wind. It's a Current Designs Expedition with a Spinfin drive. The world record's closer to 20 knots though in a pedal hydrofoil.

I'd love to make a hydrofoil version of this. Once you get up to lift speed on one of 'em, it gets much easier... maybe self-powered international travel could be achievable for ordinary mortals :D

Impressive... However I can see myself gettting tired pretty quick. As for the speed, I imagine since the hobie mirage drive speaks of 5-7 mph with turbo fins from demo vids Ive seen I dont doubt the 9 mph... I am curious if this is a prototype model of yours or if its actually purchasable?

depends on gearing and the prop, he looks to be going at a fast clip, maybe a foil would help.

It is truly telling when someone starts throwing around their "credentials" instead of facts that they know when they are spouting mis-truths. It is a very simple question. Where is the proof that this boat is going 9 mph without some form of assistance?

The only way this boat could be going 9 mph on the water is if some motor boat was towing it, if it had a current of at least 3 mph assisting it, or it there was one helluva wind pushing it. Where's the proof???

You can beach the Cadence, too, though as with any boat you will end up with scratches in the hull. You can either lift and pull the boat onto the shore stern first or use a dolly. I'd like to see you put two Wavewalkers on the roof of your car by yourself and drive about town. Those things need a trailer, albeit a lightweight one, and two strong people to carry to the beach. Have fun trying to park in all those single length parking spots!

The design of the boat has much more to do with the top speed of the boat, as well as with the long term cruising speed for a given "motor". We have eel grass, kelp, milfoil and everything else you have, and encounter areas where even power boats have troubles. In the Cadence you just pedal backwards a little and the cutting blade removes the weeds without you even getting your hands wet.

I've used the Cadence on the ocean in waves up to 3 feet and winds of 15 knots and in large swells. It does take some experience and a good sense of balance but it certainly can be done. Need more stability? The optional outriggers enable one to stand up, cast a rod, pull in large fish, etc. The WaveWalker tops out at 6 mph on mirror flat water. I've tried that boat with a GPS. It puts up a tremendous bow wave and the propeller starts getting ventilation, preventing higher speeds.

That is a wavewalker. I own two. I like the Cadence for the weight (83#'s) but $4000 for a yak? Wavewalkers can be had for $1800. 250#'s a pop makes them fun to load, but they don't feel like 250#'s on the water.

This looks a lot like a WaveWalker. If it is, then the boat is quite heavy and tops out around 6 mph. Take a look at the Open Water Cycling Cadence for a much faster pedaled "kayak". That boat cruises at 6+ mph, and people can sprint to 10+ mph - without current or wind assistance.
