The contest is organized every year in Hannover, Germany, it consists of two categories, XL (100x50x50cm, video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXvtJi_bdLo) and Nano (25x25x30cm, this video) Over 30 planted nano aquariums were arranged, some of them were really amazing. It's impossible to list all the aquarium plants used in the aquascapes, they were probably all species available in the aquarium trade ;) Aquarium sets were provided by Dennerle, the volume was about 20 liters. Dennerle internal aquarium filters were used, and Dennerle aquarium substrate. Aquarium lighting was compact fluorescent lamps. No CO2 supplementation was used during the contest, but obviously most of the aquariums were pre-grown at home, far ahead before the aquascaping contest. Aquarium fish are not allowed in the nano aquariums by the rules of the contest, so there are only some snails, shrimps and one and only young bushymouth catfish :)

this is great. it's better to have no fish with such densely planted aquariums  - good for the fish, plus fish would be over the top with these scenery. great channel, keep it up. just a note: the videos are tad bit over exposed, just a little - the greens are sometimes blindingly green.

There is the outflow of the filter located under the sand - it's like a small "fountain", stirring the substrate all the time.

Yup, it's the outflow of the filter put under the sand. I'm not sure, however, if the filter is external or internal. Probably internal.

How can you make that rimpling effect in the sand? 3:19, I think its quite awesome. Is that in combination with an external filter and arranging the outflow water under the sand?

DefiniteAquascapeTV - 10 years ago
Arranging itself takes about 3-4 hours. But there is also the pregrowing phase - I mean, experienced aquascapers usually set up a similar aquarium at home, few months before the contest, and let the plants grow nicely. Then they either take the whole aquarium (without water) to the exhibition hall, or disassemble the whole layout and transport it to the hall, where an empty tank of the same dimensions is waiting.
Hermawan Julianto
Hermawan Julianto - 10 years ago

Well, in such small aquariums open space is something which shows that the aquariums are small. One can see all the walls, silicone, etc. The more plants the more possible it is to "conceal" the real size of nanoaquarium...
Remorseless Cuck-Slayer
Remorseless Cuck-Slayer - 11 years ago
Very nice, although I think many of these aquariums are over-planted. I prefer to have a bit more open space to allow the fish more swimming area, thus improving visibility by the owner.
