My betta fish looks exactly like the one that she chose. I just have a quick question. In my goldfish tank is it safe to dye the water a different colour with food dye? because after 2 weeks with not cleaning the water is bright green and it doesn't look very good at all

One time I had a betta fish when I was younger and during the night my cat somehow got the fish out of the tank and he was left for many hours out of water. I woke up to find him beside my bed and brown. My dad told me to put it back in the tank and watch it. After a few minutes of me having a funeral with my stuffed animals

I'm in the process of fixing it but if anyone wants to give me any advice I'd be thankful (I have a 5 gallon tank, small sponge filter ((aquael pat mini filter)) and a heater. You never see young children really interested in the freshwater or saltwater fish keeping hobby now. I'm the only kid I know who knows that a goldfish isn't just one of those orange feeder fish you put in a bowl that costs 25 cents. My friends who are the same age as me don't know an oranda from a telescope from a jikin, much less the difference between a canister and a HOB filter, how to control pH levels, and what the nitrogen cycle is. Videos like these have really helped me understand real fish keeping and it's great that you're introducing your sons and daughters now. Thanks for posting, Joey :)

betas are pretty good pets if you have other animals around. once my cat knocked over my little sisters beta fish tank and it spilled all over her floor. we found him washed into a book while cleaning up the mess. he was still alive so we threw him into a measuring cup full of water. he managed to survive, but died later because my sisters room got too cold. Betas are just really cool fish.

I remember my first fish tank and first fish I owned were Bettas(both male, and I had this small Betta tank(and it had two sides, so one male on each side) and I had one red and on blue. I know fish are almost never the same, but the blue Betta reminds me almost exactly of my first fish

Thank you soooo much for doing all the proper steps for the tank. Lots of parents just get a little bowl and dump the fish in without acclimation.
I would suggest getting fine gravel though, shrimps can scavenge better in gravel.

As a betta breeder the condition of that fish makes me sad. I am not a fan of pet stores. For a second I thought you where going for African Dwarf Frog, and got upset, as they are common tank mates for Bettas. Even though they are terrible tank makes due to be carnivores and nearly blind, they like to nip the fins. My prized fish is a Indo competition placed fish. He's a beautiful crown tail but his fins where broken upon transit back to me. But he placed 5th in comp. if you want some cheap comp quality bettas give me a shout and I'll hook you up with a good breeder and my transhipper. Good setup and great way to introduce them into this hobby!!

I have to ask, this 'bleach dip' for the plants. Can i do this with decorations as well? And after the 'dip' did you just rinse the plant off and put it in the tank right away, or wait a certain amount of time? I suggest getting a damp paper towel (or a damp tissue to be extra careful) and running it across the wood's surface to see if the wood rips it at all. Also make sure to put the wood in boiling water before you put it in the tank to get rid of any bad germs.

Hey guys you're probably never going to see this, but I'm just warning you to keep an eye on your beta and shrimp. Betas are also known as Japanese Fighting Fish. Most of them are very aggressive towards other betas and other types of fish. They typically attack any other species when they feel threatened by it. Also, the wood in you tank is very rough and sharp, I suggest you take it out or sand it down. Betas tails and fins are extremely fragile and delicate and get very easily torn. When betas tails and/or fins are cut or torn, it hurts them very badly. I just recently lost one of my betas, Milo, do to a torn tail. They are very sensitive fish. I hope you see this comment. Over all, your tank is amazing and I hope you enjoy the company of your cute beta!!

My 7 year old just purchased her 1st aquarium and fish a few weeks ago. She's being very responsible at feeding them just a little twice a day. 1 unfortunately developed white fuss on it's tail due to swim bladder. He was eating the ghost shrimp's pellets which I believe expanded inside him. The fungus is now gone and swim bladder is still being treated. He's starting to look ab little better but not 100% yet.

so I recently got my very first betta, just over a month ago, and I was entirely on my own in the process. the betta was a surprise gift so I had no time to prepare or do research, I didn't know about the nitrogen cycle, etc etc. currently he's in a sort-of cycled tank (I used quick start but I'm not certain it worked right so I'm worried about my lil baby) 10 gal with three amanos and a bunch of plants. when I first got him, I only had the .75 gallon "tank" my parents gave me! now he's doing much better and his fins (initially white) are starting to fill in with his lovely iridescent royal blue-cyan color. I've been trying my hardest to make things absolutely perfect for him, because I love the lil guy so much! His name is Celeste and he's a half moon betta with a white patch of scales on his back, and mostly iridescent royal blue scales that shine green in the light. his blue is bleeding into the white fins, and he looks healthier every day! I love him sooo much!

not to mention that I didn't know to bleach dip the plants, so I'm currently dealing with a minor snail infestation (I've only seen two so far, and I currently have them in a little moss ball container full of tank water)

That is a very nice first tank for her. I personally have a 40litre tropical tank with community fish. What I find the hardest is keeping the minimum amount of fish that I can have (which is around 25 fish I believe, including shrimps and snails) and thoroughly cleaning the tank. I do have live plants in there along with some bog-wood and have gravel for substrate. Does anyone have any tips of what plants, fish and cleaning materials I can get that I can buy in the UK? That would be so useful.

omg my big sister has two betas, she keeps them in one gallon tanks for now but she is planning on getting a bigger tank for the both of them.. and of course make sure they are sepperated
