I building this tank was an awesome experience. I look forward to filling it with plants and fish :)

jolis travaille !
I think I will have a carpenter build me one using your design, only slightly larger, maybe 300+ gal. Again, great job.
Gr8 job btw!
SUBBED!!
what a big fish
GE1 Silicon seems to be safe, but it's questionable. I've heard of people fixing their sumps with it, and i've heard of some people building with it. did you use GE1 Silicon or some other household shit?? Silicon is notorious for leaching out harmful chemicals into the tank water causing health problems for the plants and fish.
the part that worries me the most is the plywood bottom. what did you glaze that with?? i can just see it leaching all kinds of chemicals out into the water.
i see this video is about a year old. have you noticed any short life spans in fish, or difficulty keeping plants alive for more than a few months??
amazing build for the most part, but i think you just made half the tank builders in the world cringe with the chemicals you used. if it's GE1 silicon that might be alright, but that bottom....i wonder how many years it will last, on top of what kind of chemicals leached out, and how it affected the life span of the animals.
Congrats on all your hard work!

Thanks.
normally i just soak em in chlorine for a while, then rinse, transfer to a different container with clean water, and lots of dechlorinator added, and let it soak in there for a few days to give the dechlorinator a chance to work it's way around. then rinse.
sometimes i just resort to boiling the wood, but boiling always leaches out all the tannins, so i'm not gonna bother boiling this time around. ill try the vinegar and see how that works out.
I let that soak for a few days to be safe ( I used a large very dense piece). The one quick rinse with clean water and it's good to go. No risk of chlorine in the aquarium.
a guy gave me a 30GALLON to rescue one time. -and he used to smoke cigars in his apartment constantly. the sent had worked it's way all the way to below the substrate into the very waste matter of the fish. no shit(no pun).
i had to wash the gravel several times to get the smell of cigars out of it. even the water smelled of cigar smoke, and it was in the filters and everything. only a few of those fish are still around, and it was around 2012ish that this happened. a couple of plecos and a rosey barb survived.
i know first hand that the bubblers have the very effect that you feared. i don't spray aerosols in my room. i have over 200GALLONS encircling my walls, and many of the tanks have bubblers. anything in the air will be in the tanks if present long enough.
Correct me if I am wrong but that will leech concentrated chemicals as well as potentially throwing pH out of whack.
.:)
Cheers,
Greg

Я пытался использовать Google Translate, но до сих пор не имеют ни малейшего представления, о чем вы говорите. лол
Вообщем, это аналог эпоксидной смолы, только не такой токсичный!
With Goldfish you can't have anything nice... Those bumbling inbred eggs end up hurting themselves on just about everything.
Ive been keeping tropical fish for well over 35 years and always "seeded" new tanks the same way with no fish loss. This method has always worked well for me.
You should have one in the city (or whatever) where you live.
How do you estimate the thickness of the glass to be used? Is there a standard measurement?
how tick is the glass and what did you use?

My first was a 450 liters a friend built for me, 1500 mm wide, 500 mm deep and 600 mm height (don't know the imperial equivalent) all glass, but he kind of forgot to brace it...first test filling was exciting, it bulged like 7-8 centimeters (about 3 inches?) in the middle :D
Picture no. 4 and 5 below, how he works with the silicone. It is more safety for a square tank, less tension. sorry, link in german language. dont want to improve like a teacher, just a better solution for more safety. I know you have a wood ground, but maybe in future if you want to build with glass. However its possible to work like this above the glass I mean on top. (sry. for my bad english) greetings
Puts in a few goldfish in that you can win at the fair.
I've got 1 question, why didn't you test it for leaks in a save place?
Just call a few friends to help you lift after testing, saves you a lot of trouble if the tank started leaking over night..
