It derives from the Cyprinidae family and comes from Southeast Asia in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia where populates mountain running waters, especially near rapids and waterfalls. It 'a bony fish with a very elongated body, mouth equipped with 2 pairs of barbels, the livery is gray, dark on the back and silvery light on the stomach, and large scales dorsal and anal fins transparent. It has a clear horizontal black strip along the sides, from head to tail fin, which distinguishes him from false Siamese like "Garra taeniata or Flying Fox Thai" that have fins yellow red. They are good swimmers, but also jumpers and need an closed tank to not jump out. They do not need and do not enter and shelters in caves or caverns, although there are algae. Very hectic in eating and in search of algae, effectively clean the algae that grow on the plants without damaging them. He 'a pretty lively fish that loves the group, peaceful, but often loves to sudden outbursts, which may result in unintentionally annoying especially for shy and quiet species. Its size and character make it advisable to raise it in aquariums of at least 200 liters as it may manifest territoriality in smaller aquariums. It is a herd fish so we suggest to put 4/5 specimens, lives with Rasbora hetermomorpha, barbs, danio, loaches. It 'a oviparous fish, difficult reproduction in aquarium, almost impossible to notice the dimorphism between males and females, this last a little more big. Omnivorous, feeds mainly on algae that obtains for itself, but accepts without any problem even in traditional feed flakes and granules, tablets plant for cleaners based foundation of spirulina, vegetables, such as cucumbers, zucchini, salad greens or spinach, lightly boiled or raw. They also eat mosquito larvae, Daphnia and other insects, like too small organisms such as planarians so it is useful for pest control.
