+Dan Hiteshew 110%. You can see how many fish react to white sand, and then a black substrate. They try their best to blend in against the background. A natural defence against predators.

I did a change a while ago to add Economy Complete black.I suck up the gravel with a 3/4" hose. To add the new substrate put it in a plastic soda bottle then I fill the bottle with water then I turn it upside down close to the bottom and then let it out. The dust stays in the bottle while the new gravel comes out.
